Youth Soccer Roundup: Blaze take first place, Cougars go 2-1

The Tracy Futbol Club’s Blaze took first place in the girls under-11 A Bronze bracket this past weekend in the Soccer by the Bay Tournament in Burlingame.

Blaze beat Sunnyvale Alliance Soccer Club’s Extreme Red in the opening game by a score of 4-0, with Megan Perry, Olivia Smith, Samantha Serrato and Brianna Serrato scoring for the Blaze. Giana Jong and Megan Johnson had assists, while Alyssa Gallaher and Sydney Schultz played in goal.

The Blaze won the second game, 7-1, over San Carlos Spark, with goals from Perry, Smith, Schultz and Gallaher. Midfield help came from Eliana Schreppel and Johnson. Karina Rodriguez and Jong played defense, and Gallaher was the goalie.

The Blaze won game three against Burlingame Edge, 4-1. Perry scored two goals, and Samantha Serrato and Johnson also scored for the Blaze, with assists by Brianna Serrato. Gallaher was goalkeeper.

The Blaze won the championship game against South San Jose Fusion on Sunday, Aug. 22, after going scoreless during regulation and overtime. The Blaze won it with the penalty kick shootout, netting five of five attempts, while the Fusion missed its last shot. Perry, Jong, Rodriguez, Johnson and Brianna Serrato all made their shots.

The Blaze saw success earlier in the season with a second-place finish in the Pleasanton Rage College showcase, first place in the Tracy Futbol Club Orange Bowl, first in the Nor Cal Spring League and first in the Cabernet Indoor series in Livermore.

The Blaze plays again this weekend at the Portugal Cup in Manteca.



Cougars go 2-1 in San Juan Capistrano

The California Cougars under-19 soccer team went 2-1 during the West Coast FC Classic this past weekend in San Juan Capistrano.

The Cougars opened with a 5-1 win over LAFC Chelsea. Alexis Poppoff scored two goals, and Jessica Cervantes, Jaime Flores and Joanna Ortiz had one each. Kylie Gacer, Sarah Manseau, Valeria Ordaz, Ortiz and Poppoff recorded an assist each.

In their second game, the Cougars were defeated 2-0 by Beach FC G92 on a penalty kick in the first half and a corner kick in the middle of the second half.

In one of four consolation championships, the Cougars defeated Notts Forest FC Red, 2-1, on goals by Ally Drake and Regan Porteous. Flores had an assist.

The Cougars will open up NorCal Premier Fall league play this Saturday, Aug. 28, against Boca 92G.
