Local woman joins United Way directors board

Tracy resident Vanessa Sheared, dean of the college of education at California State University, Sacramento, has been elected to the board of directors for United Way’s Capital Corridor Region. As a director, she will help further United Way causes in several Sacramento-area and foothill counties.

Sheared has researched and taught on race, class, gender and other social topics.

Tracy man earns master’s degree

Dean Matthew Reese of Tracy has received his Master of Arts degree from Western Governors University, which conducted commencement ceremonies July 17.

The nonprofit online university, founded by 19 state governors, offers courses to more than 19,000 students in all 50 states and awarded 714 undergraduate degrees and 565 graduate degrees this year.
