A crop duster crashed this morning in a field near Interstate 5 east of Tracy.

According to Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor, the single-engine biplane lost power for an as-yet-unknown reason and came to rest upside-down in a field owned by the Pombo family along Mancuso Road.

Gregor explained that the pilot walked away from the crash uninjured, though the plane was “substantially damaged.”

The Grumman G164B crop duster is registered to Trinkle Ag Flying Inc. on Kasson Road, which has a hangar near Deuel Vocational Institution.

A representative at Trinkle Ag Flying Inc. declined to comment.

The FAA is investigating the cause of the crash.

Get a grip EVERYONE!!! This story is about a plane that CRASHED, nothing to do with who owns or owned the land. We are all very lucky to make it back home after we run off to work. This pilot is lucky as well!! If one gets in a car crash are we going to bash those who farmed the land before the government decided to pave the road? No one can help what they were born into but we all certainly can help how we treat others!! If you were born into the Pombo family you might not enjoy all the expectation ones name might come with!! BE NICE, LIFE IS SHORT. One Pombo is certainly not like the next, just as one Smith is from the other!!

raymopom: Wah, wah, wah I'm a Pombo and someone dirtied my name by saying our family owns a field! Wah, wah, wah.

Seriously? Now that is small minded.

There's nothing in this report that could remotely 'tarnish' anyone's name. The fact is, someone reported to the TP that the field is 'owned by former Rep. Richard Pombo'. Sure wish I had the resources to own the field in question so someone could 'tarnish' my name. Don't be so darned sensitive raymopom and thank the Lord you do!

R.P. How does owning a field tarnish your families name? Seems like the Pombo's love to throw their name and weight around. Cross one and you're bad mouthed forever!

In TP's defense, it is written reportedly owned by Pombo. I heard the same on Good Morning Sacramento. So I guess they need to get their facts straight as well. :-)

Poppy!!! PuppyDogg, Poppy is the name of my new puppy I got 2-3 months ago. Your name kinda makes me remember Poppy. She was born March 23, 2010. Wish you a wonderful day and I am off to work soon. (OH! A helicopter just passed by that they also use as crop dusters!).

P.S. Tracy Press, Richard Pombo doesn't have any stake in this land. So get your facts straight before you try to tarnish his and our families name. R.P.

Is there anything in this town Pombo doesn't own?

Like many people in town there is more than one Pombo. Well over 15 of em. And no, Richard Pombo doesn't own everythang in town.

How many people in th Tracy area have the same last name as you?

I just looked at the address PuppyDogg (Poppy?) gave. I am just guessing here: The pilots do not want to get the FAA or Sheriff involved because it is possible they do not have a license, insurance, or whatever you may need to fly a duster? I'm just guessing again and I hope no more dusters go down.

Second duster this year to go down.

Here's the link to the one earlier this year which to my knowledge, has yet to be explained.

You know, about 2.5 hrs. ago I saw the picture of the plane and field on KCRA. I do not know what was said (you should know the reason why) but it was mentioned on TV.

I agree with vetdude88 so much!!!

Any landing you walk away from is a good landing in my book.

Concerned Farmer:

I wonder how many times that plane didn't sprayed my fields, but charged me? We will never know. I think Trinkle was honest.

I'm glad the pilot is okay!
