Tonight, Aug. 11, the Tracy Planning Commission will open up the floor during its meeting to hear comments from the public about changes to the city’s plan for future growth.

The commission will accept comments regarding a drafted amendment to the general plan, Tracy’s master growth document. The changes regard the city’s vision for development in 10 and 30 years, which changed after the land-use focused Local Area Formation Commission altered local growth policies.

Planners also seek feedback on the city’s draft sustainability action plan, an effort to cut pollution in the city as well as conserve water and other resources.

The meeting is set for 7 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 333 Civic Center Plaza.

@Sneaky

That's the most ridiculous comment I've read in quite a while.

point 1

The sustainability movement within design, lifestyle, and future considerations will save your hide, your children's hide, and your grandchildren's hide. Water and land are our most precious resources and we use and abuse them. People think they can live a 1950's american dream in a century where the population of lawns, houses, and showers have quadrupled. Our resources haven't gotten any bigger, however our numbers have. We will run out of these precious resources sooner or later. It's going to take a fundamental shift in our understanding of resource usage and its conservatives like you who are grasping onto old straws from a distant past. It's great that the city wants to try and make a difference in the community and maybe inspire others such as yourself to follow the lead.

point 2

I'm only going to write two things...

1) Tracy's population is constantly increasing. Where do you want our sons and daughters to live?

2)If anything, the city's plan needs to focus on moving more people into the city core, redeveloping the area for slightly higher densities and more open parks, allowing downtown Tracy to truly become a walkable city. The best towns across this country are led a pedestrian emphasis not a vehicular one.

So please, like the rest of the old hats, look forward and educate yourself on the possibilities of our societies can be instead of what they were. The city that you clamor for is no more.

Two comments: 1) "sustainability" is a stupid liberal hippy douche word. It is vague and unquantifiable. 2) rather than a plan for "future growth" I would like to see a plan for zero growth. Tracy is a nice size as is. Perhaps even a tiny bit overcrowded. Lets keep some open space around us. If you can accomplish that, much of the concern about pollution would go away too.

How about a link to the growth document? Or if not online how about posting a pdf. Whats a local area formation commission? Just think there could be more info on this guys.
