Incumbent Brent Ives will be challenged in the Nov. 2 mayoral election by Linda Gonzalez, who last week officially filed papers to run her campaign.

The filing period for mayor closed Friday, Aug. 6, according to Carole Fleishcmann, assistant city clerk for Tracy.

That means Gonzalez and Ives will be the only two names to appear on the Nov. 2 ballot for the mayoral seat, though one or more write-in candidates could still challenge.

As for the City Council race, Councilwoman Evelyn Tolbert failed to file her intent to seek re-election by the Friday deadline.

Because neither she nor Councilwoman Suzanne Tucker plan to defend their seats, which are both up for election this fall, the candidate filing deadline for the council race was extended to the end of City Hall business hours on Wednesday, Aug. 11.

Eight candidates have so far lined up to challenge one another for the vacancies — Juana Dement, Bob Elliott, Larry Gamino, Larry Hite, Pete Mitracos, Robert Rickman, Jass Sangha and Nancy Young.

I wonder if CanISaySomething is talking about that guy that showed up drunk at city council and started yelling at everyone?
