A distraught woman called police at 9:25 p.m. Thursday and said that she was walking her two dogs on the 100 block of Manzanita Lane when two pit bulls came out of a house and one of them attacked and killed one of her dogs. A man told police that the pit bulls belonged to his sister, and he brought the dogs back inside their house. Police got information on both dog owners and took a report.

Tracy Police recorded 183 calls on Thursday, including the following reports:

1:03 a.m.: An employee at Taco Bell, 2320 N. Tracy Blvd. told police that a man was on the ground next to a bicycle behind the trash cans and had been there since 4 p.m. Police checked him out and discovered that the man was sleeping, and the restaurant management said it was OK if he slept there for the rest of the night.

2:02 a.m.: A man was seen dragging a woman across the street in a neighborhood at the south end of town. The caller’s father went out to break it up, and the couple walked back toward their house a few doors down before the man got into his car and drove away.

11:17 a.m.: A suspicious-looking man on a bicycle was looking into windows in the shopping center on the 2600 block of Pavilion Parkway. A police officer talked to the man, who told the officer that he was just checking his hair in the reflections in the windows.

11:59 a.m.: A youth in a group home on Whittier Avenue was breaking windows and throwing food around, according to a caller from the house. Police detained the youth briefly.

1:08 p.m.: A man on the 00 block of East Seventh Street reported that a man was on his father’s property drilling holes in the locks. The man with the drill told police that he had an order from the bank that holds the loan on the property to change all of the locks, but the property owner said he was unaware of this order.

2:02 p.m.: A girl told police that her stepfather, who now lives in Sacramento, had molested her when he lived with the family on the southeast part of town. Police took a report.

2:57 p.m.: A 14-year-old girl was in a sexual relationship with a 21-year-old man, according to one of the girl’s parents, who went to Tracy Police headquarters to report the matter. Police looked for the man at his house but he wasn’t there, and officers took a report as part of a statutory rape investigation.

4:35 p.m.: Two men stole some electronic merchandise from Staples, 2960 W. Grant Line Road, and then threatened a store employee when confronted, according to a caller from the store. Police found the men, but no one at the store could confirm actually seeing either of them take anything, and they couldn’t confirm that any merchandise was missing.

7:01 p.m.: Police went to a group home on Whittier Avenue where a boy broke a sliding glass door and threatened others at the house, according to the person who called police.

7:42 p.m.: Three teenage boys in a blue Buick sedan beat up another teenage boy at Lowell Avenue and Tracy Boulevard, possibly in relation to a an argument over on Carlton Way about 10 minutes earlier. Police found the victim and gave him a ride home, but he did not want to press charges.

11:11 p.m.: Police responded to a report of a disturbance at Colony Drive and Graham Court for a report of people in a loud argument. Police arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

11:22 p.m.: Sutter Tracy Community Hospital reported that a 16-year-old boy came in with injuries to his face and a head injury. It was related to an assault in Dr. Powers Park, 900 W. Lowell Ave., earlier in the evening, but the youth would not provide police with any information.

For one whom portrays oneself as the perfect human, citizen and superior intellect; it sounds as though you live a miserable life. when you finish shaving in the morning do you salute your image in the mirror?

By the way I'm beginning to believe you are Latino that's pissed that you were born so.

The reason a dog has so many friends is that

he wags his tail instead of his tongue. :o)

victor_jm...

it is intolerant and non-compassionate people like yourself...who stand in judgement of others whom they do not know...that make me happy that I've chosen a life that involves me and my dog in a VERY happy life. My dog is a far more loving individual than you seem to be...and I take it back. I do disagree with you, because I think you are wrong and you are not a happy or nice person. That is my opinion and may or may not be right...but I'm tired of being the nice person to anonymous online entities like yourself that feel the need to rip on others who are trying to be fair and have discussions...in order to make yourself feel better I guess.

I'm all done with you...I think your Glenn Beck show is calling you...

however...the very responses from this person make me feel quite validated in saying that it's the owner not the dog that is the problem in the majority of dog related issues...if victor_jm were a dog...any dog...I'm thinking he'd be a biter!

Learned a bit more since the topic was heavily on the Pit Bull:

"Only pitbulls are used in dog fighting rings.

Myth: Although pitbulls commonly are used, and have the reputation for being the dog of choice in dogfights, other breeds are fought. Akita, mastiff and some terriers are known also to be used in fighting rings."

I was shocked at the word, "Mastiff", those large lumbering mellow dogs????

http://www.spcai.org/learn/animal-cruelty.html

What nightmare their owners hath wrought!

Convinces me even more that people who train dogs for dogfights or being cruel to them shouldn't have rights to have dogs if they don't respect the rights for the dog to have normal life!

NewToTracy,

It is good you are able to talk with your dog about how your day at work went. I am sure he (or she) enjoys hearing about it and gives you insightful advice about your troubles or pleasures.

Aztec,

Why don't you come clean and tell us you are an apologist for anyone who is deemed a victim? A bad breed of people prefer a particular breed of canine because they--the people--are benighted. If this choice--by the bad people--becomes a threat to the community, then the responsible people in the community ought to have the right to say a particular breed of dog is prohibited.

But, Aztec, you won't do this. Why? Because you identify yourself, first, with an ethnic group rather than a cognitive group.

Oh, bears are over-populating, but they have a right to exist. If you are shredded to death by one, oh well, that is the way the idiot's mind crumbles, because bears have a right to shred humans to death.

It is okay to outlaw something because of the degradation of particular people. This is why laws are created?

Any dog can be agressive depending on how they are raised. Pit Bulls have a history of being one of the more agressive type of dog. Unfortunately, for the animal the real issue tends to be the owners that should not have them for various reasons.

For that reason I don't trust pit bulls, rotts, dobies, etc because of how some of them are raised. I had a pitt bull attack my 8 year old black lab in front of my house while my kids were walking her and our St Bernard on leashes in front. The pit had no leash and the owner just watched as the her pit attacked my dog not trying to do anything.

I ended up jumping on the pit and putting her in a head lock to get her to release my lab, and my wife came out to get the kids in and the dogs in. With the help of a neighbor, we tied up the jaws of the pit until animal control took the dog away. The owner just walked away from the whole thing.

After about $1000 in vet bills we had to get the lab a new home because she had become agressive due to the attack. She died about a year later. Our Saint, distrusts pits. She sees one and she immediately goes on guard point. So our whole family was impacted because of a bad dog owner not being resposible.

That's what it boils down to. If you have one of the dogs I don't like but are a responisble owner that takes the necessary precautions. Good for you.

If you are some macho trip having a dog like this without knowing how to take care of it, then you shouldn't be allowed to have any dog.

Dogs can be great companions, but it is the owner that sets the relationship and how the dog will behave.

I just had to come back and comment after reading many insightful comments.

I wonder how many aggressive pit bulls have owners with prior record, perhaps they should be banned from owning any large dogs since it is easy to see what their intent is!

All the people I have known have pit bulls and they are very gentle dogs, why, because they have loving owners and respectful kids!

I do not associate with rough people who mistreat their animals since I would not feel safe in their company knowing of their personality type.

So I can only give voice to the experience I've had had with Pit Bulls, a friend of mine had a very senior Pit Bull and he was acting confused, (possibly had a stroke) or dog dementia... it broke her heart when she had to put him down but she took the responsibility to make sure everyone is safe due to his unpredictibility due to confusion. It was with love when he was put down.

I hate to say this, I have no sympathy for the teen who teased his Akita. Was told the family's Akita was the sweetest and gentlest dog. So who is really at fault? The Teen of course!

Just be aware of the puppy's temperament when you are thinking of acquiring a puppy. If it rolls on its back, it is submissive, if it shys away, it si timid, if it bites you and plays roughly with you, it is gonna be bit more difficult to train it but it can be done with patience and love.

Knowing and understanding the breed before you adopt or buy one will prevent many heart aches.

I just think the people with prior records with the police department should not have large dogs and there ought to be a law on that?

What do you think?

Any dog can be aggressive! If the dog isn't given proper attention then of course it is going to be aggressive! I am a proud owner of a Pit Bull and he is the sweetest dog I have ever owned and the most well behaved dog! He has never had any formal training, but we show him love and attention and he respects us the way we respect him! The only dog that I have come in contact with that has been aggressive has been a Chocolate Lab!!! Anyone ever heard of a Chocolate Lab attacking?!?! It's all about how you raise the dog!

Briandub,

The ATTS test focuses on and measures different aspects of temperament such as stability, shyness, aggressiveness, and friendliness as well as the dog's instinct for protectiveness towards its handler and/or self-preservation in the face of a threat. The test is designed for the betterment of all breeds of dogs and takes into consideration each breed's inherent tendencies.

The test simulates a casual walk through the park or neighborhood where everyday life situations are encountered. During this walk, the dog experiences visual, auditory and tactile stimuli. Neutral, friendly and threatening situations are encountered, calling into play the dog's ability to distinguish between non-threatening situations and those calling for watchful and protective reactions

THIS PROVES THAT HUMANS ARE AT FAULT OF AGGRESSIVE DOGS!!! Do you really believe that Pit Bulls are born Aggressive? Humans are the ones fighting and torturing these dogs and it's the dogs fault?

Aztec,

I the stats on the biting and the deaths are not disputable by temperament testing. They may at times be loyal and loving dogs, but sadly they are also the most dangerous and kill and mame more people than any other dog. And by a large percentage.

Hey Briandub,

Look up The American Temperament Test Society, Inc. (ATTS)...Get the facts straight...They are in the top Five best Temperament Breeds...

aztec,

You have to look for facts at sites that are not biased. Just google dog bite stats and look at the data captured and compiled by accredited news sources and you will see that the data tells the story. The pitbull is the number one killer by a large margin. Imagine how big that margin would be if they were as popular as the labrador?

"briandub your facts are wrong. It isn't fair you spouting facts that aren't true. Ask any vet or dog trainer. Staffordshire Terriers make up more than 2 percent of the dogs in California for sure. Ask all the dog shelters!! "

I beg to differ. I researched the facts prior to my post. The pit bull terrior is the 70th most registered dog making up less than 3% of the total dogs in the US.

However, they do indeed make up a huge percentage of the dogs in our animal shelters. This is due in large part to my point that they are a very dangerous animal.

In addition, there is an unknown number of unregistered pit bulls as they are currently a popular choice of dogs that are bred and sold on the street for a multitude of reasons.

But when you read and hear statistics that deflect the attention away from the pit bull like Labs bite more people that Pit Bulls, its simply because the all dogs bite and labs are the number one most popular dog so they should have more bites than the other dogs. But in total bites, Pit bulls are number 2. But they are the 70th most popular dog.

And take a look at these stats

Dog Bite-related Fatalities in the United States.[48]

Year Total Involving pit bull-type dogs

2005 28 17 (61%)

2006 29 15 (51%)

2007 34 18 (53%)

2008 23 15 (65%)

2009 30 14 (47%)

That is over 50% of all people killed by dogs were killed by pit bulls.

I forgot to mention "blowing" into the dog's face is not okay!

Just pretend you are the dog and you get treated like that you would get angry and fearful!

Ending this note, I am so sorry the lady lost her dog. It must be traumatic for her to see it and I know she will see it played out in her mind for a long time, the many "what ifs", and "if onlys..." will follow, it is a sad accident that happened.

My heart goes out to you, as well as Barney's owner. God bless you both.

A teenager came in last night from Akita bites. The Akita was taunted and turned defensive.

Don't taunt/tease/block/corner/poke/scream/pick it up by the legs and swing it around, that is form of cruelty!

Good thing the siblings reported their brother's actions!
