Police arrested a 41-year-old man on suspicion of burglary after someone at the Chevron station market, 2615 W. Grant Line Road, called police at 10:51 a.m. Wednesday and said the man had stolen a can of beer. He was also wanted on a warrant out of Merced County. Another man was detained but released, and a car was towed.

Tracy police recorded 183 calls Wednesday, including the following reports:

12:21 a.m.: A local hospital reported that a woman came in with a broken leg and other hurts. The call turned out to be related to a Tuesday afternoon call in which her husband told police she might have combined alcohol and drugs. At the time, police sought a psychological evaluation on the woman, but after the call from the hospital, they considered the possibility of domestic violence.

1:09 a.m.: Police got a call from the 1200 block of Standridge Court after a woman reported that someone drove by and threw a rock through her car window. Police noted that it appeared to be a conflict between ex-roommates.

6:21 a.m.: A woman on the 1400 block of Egret Drive told police an elderly woman repeatedly points a laser beam at her while she takes her morning runs. Police later spoke with the older woman, who said she used the laser beam to try to quiet down a neighbor’s barking dogs.

9:27 a.m.: Someone reported that a man hanging out in an alley near Seventh Street and Central Avenue was trying to start fights. Police arrested the 52-year-old man on a warrant for a previous charge of being drunk and disorderly.

2:14 p.m.: A woman went to Tracy police headquarters and reported that her husband’s cousin had punched her in the face Sunday and threatened to hit her with a meat tenderizer. The cousin moved out of the house, and the woman decided to not press charges.

6:22 p.m.: Someone reported a garbage can on fire in the backyard of a house on the 2200 block of Martin Road. It turned out that someone had dumped hot ashes in the garbage can.

I never understand these kinds of calls. Guess what folks.....if it's still hot dump water on it 'cuz if not, it's gonna start a fire. (Girl Scouts 101) Same principle holds true for campfires, yet how many forest/wild fires start from carelessness with campfires. Maybe Smokey Bear needs to be "rehired" 'cuz there's certainly alot of ignorant folks mishandling fire these days! I'm just sayin'.
