The event was a qualifier for the Western Regional Championships in Pocatello, Idaho, from June 20 to 26, with the top eight from state competition moving on to the regional event.
In the Intermediate Division, Eli Blackwell finished seventh to qualify for the regional competition, where he already had qualified by placing in the Greco meet last month.
In the Novice division, three wrestlers fought through the toughest wrestlers from across the state. Dave Money placed fifth in his 100-pound weight class, and both Gregory Viloria and Jaskaran Singh fought from opposite sides of their 75-pound brackets to take fourth and eighth place, respectively.
In the Schoolboy division, Danny Abbate took seventh in the 91-pound division.
Cougars reclaim first in NorCal Spring League
The California Cougars Girls under-15 soccer team climbed back into first place in the NorCal Premier Spring League with two wins Saturday and Sunday, June 5 and 6, in Stockton and Los Altos.
On Saturday, the Cougars defeated Union FC Gold 2-1 on goals by Jessica Hufford and Fiona Kennedy. Lana Pineo had one assist. On Sunday, the Cougars defeated the MVLA Fusion 3-0 on two goals by Diana Murillo and one by Kennedy. Kennedy, Murillo, and Pineo had one assist each.
Goalkeeper Victoria Case posted the shutout behind the strong defensive play of Grace Cabri, Katia Gaytan, Taylor Long, Kristina Miles, Murillo, and Elizabeth Wuellner.
The Cougars continue league play next Sunday at Manteca United and will then compete June 19 to 22 in the U.S. Club Soccer Regionals in Modesto.
