Morgan Hayes, a 2009 graduate of Tracy High, has been named Female Athlete of the Year at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.

Earlier, she had been selected as the most-valuable player on the Cosumnes softball team that took third place at the California Community College Softball Championship last month at Bakersfield College.

Hayes is a southpaw pitcher who made it through the latter half of the season with a broken middle finger on her left pitching hand. She went 10-8 for the season with a 2.12 earned-run average, and struck out 77 batters over 95-2/3 innings. In addition to pitching, she carried a team-high .434 batting average. She was named first-team Big Eight Conference and first-team all-state.
