Tracy High junior Alexis Poppoff was named Overall Most Valuable Player for 2010 by the San Joaquin Athletic Association’s soccer coaches.

Poppoff, in her third year as a varsity player, is one of the Tracy team’s forwards and most consistent scorers. This year, the Bulldogs went 9-1 in league play and 15-4-4 overall to share the SJAA championship with Lodi.

It’s the first time since 1987 that a girls soccer team from Tracy High has captured a league championship, and Tuesday’s second-round Sac-Joaquin Section playoff game is the furthest any Tracy girls soccer team has progressed in postseason play. Tracy was denied a chance to move to the Division I semifinals, however, after losing 2-1 to St. Mary’s.

Tracy senior forward Breahna Berry was named Offensive MVP, and sweeper Melissa Worthington was named Defensive MVP.

Other Tracy players taking all-league honors are senior Christina Garcia and juniors Victoria Piazza, Morgan Jong and Marissa Matta.

Tracy and Lodi dominated this year’s all-league selections, with Lodi players sharing MVP honors in three categories.

West High had three players make the Tri-City Athletic League all-league list: juniors Jasmine Schultz and Damaris Vasquez and sophomore Lilibeth Torres.

But the all-league honors were dominated by TCAL champions St. Mary’s and second-place Tokay. West finished the season tied with Stagg for third place with a league record of 5-4-1.
