The Wolf Pack started the second half of the Tri-City Athletic League season Friday with a 4-1 win at home over St. Mary’s.

The win puts West at 6-0 in TCAL (17-6 overall) with league games next week at Stagg on Wednesday and Edison on Friday.

Ciara Ervin got West started against St. Mary’s with single in the first, stole second and reached third on a passed ball. Ashley Tornio drove her in on a ground-out for West’s first run.

West’s second inning included a single from Ashley Cox and a series of walks to send in West’s second run. In the fifth inning, Elida Rubio reached on a walk, Ervin executed a base-hit bunt and Tornio singled to load the bases for Cox, who hit a two-RBI single.

Tracy 11, Franklin 4

Four home runs for the Bulldog batters gave Tracy its third league win halfway through the league season as Tracy (9-12, 3-2 San Joaquin Athletic Association) logged an 11-4 win over Franklin (6-13, 0-4 SJAA) on Thursday at the Tracy Sports Complex.

Junior outfielder Jasmine Guevara hit her first two home runs of the season, each to the same spot in right-center field. The first one, with two out in the second inning, sent in Taylor Martinez, who had tripled to left field to start off the inning, and made it a 2-1 game.

Tracy got a rally started in the third inning, when Latoya Whiten and Stephanie Fisher singled and stole bases, and Christine Lozano hit a sacrifice fly to center field to send in Whiten. Fisher scored a base hit from Rebecca Titus, Martinez got her second hit of the day, and pinch runner Jackie Boots scored on a single from Natalya Motyka.

In her second trip to the plate, Guevara saw the same outside pitch she had seen in the second inning, and she sent it to the same spot in deep right-center.

“It felt really good to start it off, and then I got everybody going and wanting to hit the ball,” Guevara said. “She threw the perfect pitch, an outside pitch, and it was my pitch.”

She added that Thursday’s outcome is an encouraging conclusion to the first half of league for her and her team.

“I have more confidence, and hopefully I get more of those outside pitches.”

With the score 8-1 in the fourth inning, Whiten led off with a single and Fisher launched the first of her two home runs to make it 10-1.

Franklin stayed alive in the fifth inning with a base hit from Celina Gomez, and an infield error on a play at second base gave Gomez a chance to round the bases and score.

The Yellowjackets got four more base hits in the sixth inning and scored two runs. Fisher hit her second home run to lead off the bottom of the sixth and make it an 11-4 game.

Fisher pitched all seven innings for the win, and while Franklin got 10 base hits, the team also left eight runners on base. Tracy had 16 hits, including three for Fisher, three for Lozano and two each for Titus, Martinez and Guevara.
