Thursday’s result was the first time Tracy High’s varsity girls had been outscored, as St. Francis finished with a team score of 145.45, ahead of Tracy’s 132.2. West finished with a score of 121.75, and Kimball, with just two varsity gymnasts, scored 53.8.
Aside from being the Tracy team’s only loss of the year, the meet also showed that, regardless of where Tracy places in the SCVAL, the team will most likely make a repeat trip to the Central Coast Section meet.
“We have a strong varsity,” coach Jenny Garay said. “The score for us to qualify is 120, and we did that today.”
West’s team also beat that score, but to make the CCS meet, both Tracy and West must match or beat the 120 mark again at the league finals May 12 in San Bruno.
Tracy’s top gymnast Thursday was Breanna Noriega, who scored 35.2 all-around and finished in fourth place behind St. Francis gymnasts. Noriega also placed first on the vault, 8.65, and third on the uneven bars, 9.4.
West’s top gymnast was Melissa Marsden, who finished eighth with an all-around score of 34. Her mark of 9.1 on the uneven bars was her first score better than 9 in that event. It earned her sixth place behind four St. Francis girls and Noriega, who was third with a score of 9.4.
“For having the turnout we had this year, being a large team and having a large varsity, the girls have done very well,” Garay said. “They’ve worked hard all season, and I think they feel good about going to sections.”
Tracy’s other all-around finishes were Cassidy Dolstra, ninth, 33.750, including fourth place on the floor exercise, 8.9; Desiree Drab, 10th, 30.7; Lauren Davichick, 11th; Hailey Angelo, 12th, 30; Kaitlin Stroup, 13th, 29.7; Hannah Garrity, 19th, 25.7; and Tyler Pendleton, 22nd, 19.8.
West’s gymnasts included Angela Stokes, 14th, 29.5; Kaitlin Vigil, 15th, 29.2; and Angela Gullette, 16th, 29.05.
For Kimball: Madeson Dennington, 17th, 28.; Julihanna Mandeville, 18th, 25.8. Junior varsity
St. Francis took first place at the junior varsity level, with a team score of 164.4. West was second at 32.5, which was Marianne Fessel’s all-around score. She took second place among all 24 gymnasts.
Kimball was third at 26.6, which was Jordan Katarzy’s all-around score, placing her fifth among all gymnasts. Tracy was fourth with Kyndra Godchaux’s all-around score of 25.65, which put her in sixth place as an individual.
