Baby Saddie, who was diagnosed with a heart murmur in March, underwent an ultrasound scan last week. The tests revealed that she needs heart surgery and has no chance of a normal life without it. The total cost is estimated to be around $3,000.

East of Eden is trying to raise money for the procedure. Contributions can be dropped off at one of the group’s Saturday adoption events at Petco, or mailed to East of Eden, P.O. Box 236, Pleasanton, CA 94566. Make checks payable to the East of Eden Rescue Saddie Fund.

For information: 815-5186.

• East of Eden is a nonprofit animal rescue group. Its volunteers are at Petco, 2888 Grant Line Road, from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. For information, call 815-5186.
