Tracy native Cedric Trujillo’s longtime involvement in sports was recognized Friday night, when he was inducted into the Stockton Mexican Sports Hall of Fame.

He was one of seven inductees — and the first from Tracy — honored at the hall of fame’s annual dinner at Elkhorn Country Club.

Trujillo, 67, a retired local postal worker, was specifically recognized for his long involvement as a player, manager and official for baseball and softball in Tracy and Stockton.

“I live in Stockton, but I always consider myself as being from Tracy, and I have kept close ties with Tracy sports for all these years,” he said.

A 1960 graduate of Tracy High School, Trujillo was quarterback on the Bulldog football team, guard on the basketball team and third-baseman on the baseball team.

While serving in the U.S. Navy for four years, he played basketball and baseball for Navy teams in the Philippines.

In the 1960s, he played baseball for Tracy Hires in Tracy and for Club Mexico and the Caballeros in Stockton in the Cal-Mex and Mexican-American baseball leagues. He has lived in Stockton since 1967.

In 1981, Trujillo organized the Delta Rebels men’s fastpitch softball team that finished fourth in a national tournament.

For a number of years, Trujillo was a baseball and softball umpire in Tracy and Stockton. From 2000 to 2004, he was the chief softball umpire in Tracy. He now works part-time for the Tracy Recreation Department as a monitor at sports fields in Tracy.

Trujillo, who retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2000, lives in Stockton with his wife, Anita. They have three sons and six grandchildren.
