Six Tracy pianists received perfect scores on the Music Teachers Association of California’s written music theory exam in February.

Fourth-graders Anna Fisher from St. Bernard’s Catholic School and Charlene Nguyen from Freiler Elementary School; sixth-grader Mikaela Mizuno of Jefferson School; seventh-graders Michael Abala from Discovery Charter School and Kyla Villaroman from West Valley Christian Academy; and eighth-grader Adtya Gupta from Williams Middle School all scored in the top 16 out of 368 students from the Tri-Valley area.

This is the third year in a row Mikaela and Kyla have received perfect scores.

Each year, more than 30,000 students participate in the exam statewide.

Tracy teacher plans a mission

Peggy Haase, a first-grade teacher at Bella Vista Christian Academy, and Tracy resident Marjorie Maciel will serve on a short-term mission to Ukraine in July.

They both attend St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

The mission team consists of five women who will teach and work with diabetic and disabled children at a boys home.

They will leave for the Ukraine on July 8 and return July 22.
