EDITOR,

I am extremely disappointed that Tracy Delta Solid Waste Management has decided to cancel the spring and fall cleanups for 2010. In my opinion, this is just an opportunity for them to capitalize on the suffering of others as an excuse for reducing their services to paying customers.

My monthly payments have not been reduced, and yet, my service is reduced with apparently no recourse. I’m not sure what else I can say, other than this is a load of “garbage.”

Like most all cities in California, Tracy is in a financial crisis. It sounds to me like you should get used to a few perks of your city getting cut.

I live in Tracy and work for a city in the Bay area. IMO, If giving up pay and a few extras is what is needed to keep jobs, then thats what we need to do. How is that capitolizing on the suffering of others?

Author,

Are you kidding?

This is the best thing to happen to Tracy. We don't have to put up with scavengers driving all over town digging through our trash piles strewn all over the street at night. And vandalize our front yards.

I think it only cost me Ten dollars to haul your old couch to the dump. And given the constructive quality of a couch made overseas I'd be willing to bet most sofas could easily fit one in your can. If properly broken up.

This is an existential issue. Many people accept so many aspects of their lives without philosophical contemplation. Why would any properly-guided soul need a city to provide him with two special days of clean-up each year? Shouldn’t he manage this aspect of his life without dumping a load of junk on the sidewalk or street twice a year?

Isn’t garbage service once a week excessive? Doesn’t it promote the production of garbage? Why not service every ten days? Wouldn’t this save money for some? Why should I—someone who puts his trash out once every two- or three weeks—pay the same rate as people who are indiscriminate? Also, so many people still do not remove recyclables from non-recyclable trash—and this adds to the problem.

Well, I guess the collection of garbage is like many other services we accept in life which happen at different rates for different people—though we are all assessed the same price. Some people create little garbage, while others surround themselves in it.

Read a book and stop with the schlock.

This is so typical how people complain bout things without really knowing what thair complain bout.

Quick, name me three other cities in CA that are th size of Tracy that has a history of these types of garbage pickups? Ah, yer cheatin, no fair usin th internet. If it's really all that common ya should already know who they are.

Can't think of any? While thair no doubt are a few thair ain't very many an those who do most likely are lookin at how much those thangs cost an no doubt are considerin trimmin thair own operational budget rather than increase thair citizen's property taxes an fees.

Ya ask, "did the city plan?" Let me respond, did you plan for it? Did everyone else? Before th crunch did you or anyone else ya knew go down ta th City ya though they weren't payin attention? Some perhaps but apparently not all.

Or, like many others, did th current financial crisis we now find ourselves in catch you flat footed an unprepared as well? It seems this is what actually happened. Well wake up an smell th coffee, sorry if it goes down kind of bitter but th we're all out of th sugar supplied by yer nanny.

I don't like th current situation either but can well understand if ya can't afford it you simply can't afford it. In this respect, th city ain't really all that different than you are. Perhaps ya are prepared but since yer carpin about th couple of hundred dollars it's gonna cost ya ta get rid of yer own junk, I sorta have th impression ya weren't quite as prepared fer th current financial crisis ya though ya were. Now whose fault is that? Oh, right, that's th city's fault right?

Perhaps ya'd like ta increase yer garbage rates ta cover this cost? Bet ya'd scream bloody murder about that too cus it didn't fit inta yer current finances.

Why not just be thankful fer th gravy boat you've been ridin has lasted this long an pray that it will come back one day so we can all take advantage of it. Or did that somehow magically become a "right"?

We the people of the United States of America have determined that we have a right to free garbage collection and that some here-to-for unknown entity will cover the costs of that right that is hereby extended to everyone.

See how ridiculous that sounds? I guess not.

This is so typical of how poorly this city is run. It's always take it from the people as though we are not all struggling ourselves. The first thing that needs to be done is to get rid of the same old same old city council which I am confident this will happen. What happened here in Tracy was that when the times were good, these so called people that run this city were throwing money all over the place, I guess not thinking that all good things come to an end. Yes, if you haven't been on this earth of ours that long, you should know the economy goes up and down like everything else. Did the city plan for that no. So now, we have to get services such as Spring pickup reduced or eliminated, we have to pay hundreds of dollars if we have a medical emergency and the fire department shows up, which is basically a fine for using the fire department, and other city services reduced. Great planning Brent Ives and Company! I guess I will be waiting for a reduction in my already to expensive garbage bill since I have a reduction in my services! Oh, is there a penalty to use the Police Department here in Tracy? Maybe that will help resolve all of the cities financial problems, surely this all can't be because of mismanagement. Famous last words. " It's the economies falt".
