Bikers help abused children

Bikers Against Child Abuse will ride from Tracy to French Camp and to a local prison’s family center to deliver Easter baskets to children in a shelter.

The ride will start at 10 a.m. today from Back Roads Custom Cycles, 2446 Toste Road. One group of riders will head to the Mary Graham Children’s Shelter in French Camp, while another will ride to the family center at the Deuel Vocational Institution east of Tracy.

In addition to the basket deliveries, riders have organized a lunch with a local band at the children’s shelter. At the family center, riders will team up with Friends Outside to hand out Easter baskets and toys.

Jefferson 4-H plans fundraiser

The 49th annual Jefferson 4-H spaghetti and tri-tip dinner fundraiser will take place from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Hawkins Elementary School, 475 Darlene Lane.

A silent auction will take place along with the dinner. Tickets are $12, and children 5 and younger get in free. Take-out dinners are available.

D.A.R.E. co-sponsors bicycle drive

The Tracy D.A.R.E. Advisory Board, the Central Valley Wheelers bicycle club, Tracy Cyclery and Silva’s Bicycle Service will collect new and used bicycles from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. today at City Hall, 333 Civic Center Plaza.

The bikes will be given away to needy children.

Elks to host veterans dinner

The Tracy Elks Lodge will host its annual Vet Dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. today at the lodge, 6400 W. 11th St.

The dinner raised more than $5,000 last year, and the money went to the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Livermore.

A raffle and a blind auction will accompany the roast beef dinner. The cost is $15.

Haircuts for Haiti fundraiser

Tresses Hair Salon will cut hair from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at SouthWinds Church, 13400 W. Middle Road, to raise money for victims of the earthquake in Haiti.

Safe teen driving event planned

The Get Real Behind the Wheel committee and Altamont Motorsports Park will host an on-track safe teen driver training session from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the racetrack, 17001 Midway Road.

Teens between the ages of 14 and 18, accompanied by their parents with their own car, can learn safe driving in the pit and on the track. The Department of Motor Vehicles and local law enforcement will help with the training.

Bunny Hut fundraiser

A Bunny Hut fundraiser is open Monday through Saturday until April 1 at the Sutter Tracy Community Hospital, 1420 N. Tracy Blvd.

Specialty baskets for boys, girls and adults, See’s candy, and many other goodies are sold at the hut, and money is used for hospital charity work.

Society readies for annual luncheon

The Tracy Auxiliary of the Children’s Home Society will host its 13th annual spring luncheon and egg raffle from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Portuguese Hall, 430 Ninth St.
