San Joaquin County has received roughly $2.9 million to add lanes on Interstate 205 so cars entering or exiting the freeway can speed up and slow down without disrupting the flow of traffic.

In Tracy, construction will begin this summer and end in the summer of 2012 to beef up on- and off-ramps on I-205 between Tracy Boulevard and Mountain House Parkway. The extra stretches of road will let cars speed up or slow down as they enter or exit the freeway.

The money to pay for the work is from Proposition 1B, a law approved by voters in 2006 that provided California with a $19.9 billion transportation bond to fix up local streets and roads.

newtotracy,

I know what your mean because I used to commute over the hill. Californians pay extra tax on the gas we purchase to take care of the roads. 20 years ago they said they were going to fix these things for commuters. What happen to all the money in the fat days? Why weren't they fixed then? Now that we are strapped for cash they are using federal money for roads? I guess I just don't understand the thinking.Cal trans I guess has security in knowing there are always roads that need to be fixed, and very little oversight. Our tax dollars at work!!!

gramma1, I hear you. I will say that this spot clogs up nearly every morning (due to the incessant inability to merge that is so common in Bay Area drivers...or is it just California drivers?), so I'm happy if that stops. But I'd rather people were smarter and understood the principles of merging...perhaps if we put money into schools that would happen.

I'd also love FIXING existing roads versus adding lanes that are only necessary because people can't share...they have to be in front of just one more car. There is a "pothole" on eastbound 580 just where the split for 205 occurs that takes up most of the slow lane...how about a few bucks worth of blacktop there CalTrans? Hopefully my note to Mr Roadshow will get something done, because my email to CalTrans got nothing...
