Students featured in art show

An opening reception for the “California Landscapes” student art show will start at 7 tonight at the Tracy Historical Museum, 1141 Adam St.

The art was created by Hirsch Elementary School fourth-graders, and the show will run at the museum through March 24. The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Wednesday and Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday.

VFW invites vets to barbecue

Veterans of Foreign Wars Tracy Post 1537 and its Ladies Auxiliary will host at barbecue from 5 to 7 p.m. today at 1960 N. Tracy Blvd.

Veterans of any war are encouraged to attend and consider joining the group. New members’ first-year dues will be paid by the group.

Tracy Unified parents invited to kindergarten meeting

Tracy Unified School District’s Play School Readiness Program will host Countdown to Kindergarten meetings Thursday and March 17 at the district office, 1875 W. Lowell Ave.

Parents are invited to learn about registering kindergarten students, the district’s schools and programs and how to prepare kids for school.

Thursday’s meeting will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., and the March 17 meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Both meetings are free.

Church crab feed

Tracy Community Church is sponsoring an “all-you-can-eat” crab dinner Saturday to raise funds for the His Vision Missions.

Cracked crab, tri-tip steak and salad, catered by Masons’ Falling Off the Bone Catering, will be served at 6 p.m. at Tracy Community Church on Sequoia Boulevard off Alden Glen Drive. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.

A no-host soda bar and silent auction will be featured.

Fundraiser for Tracy Free Clinic

Avon sales representatives Alma Maier and her daughter, Megan, will donate 40 percent of their sales of certain products to the Tracy Free Clinic, which provides health care to those in the community who are under- or uninsured.

Best-selling body lotion and soap sets are priced from $4 to $10.

Orders must be placed by Saturday, but the fundraiser will be ongoing.

Moose Lodge pasta fundraiser

The Tracy Moose Lodge invites the public to a pasta feed fundraiser at 6 p.m. Saturday at the lodge, 35 E. Sixth St. The menu is pasta with meatballs, salad, garlic bread and dessert.

Tickets are $9, while children 10 and younger are $5. Reservations are required.

Widows’ monthly luncheon

Tracy’s chapter of the Widowed Persons Association of California will host its monthly lunch meeting 11:20 a.m. Saturday at Four Corners Restaurant, 7509 West Linne Road.

Women’s club offers scholarship

The Tracy Republican Women’s Club is accepting applications for its $2,000 scholarship. Any college-bound girl in a Tracy school who hopes to pursue a career in government, public policy or politics is encouraged to pick up an application from a school counselor.

Senior group plans road trip

The Tracy Senior Citizens Travel Group will travel to Hanford to tour the city’s restored historical sites.

The group will get together at 8 a.m. March 31 at Lolly Hansen Senior Center, 375 E. Ninth St. The trip costs $30 per person and doesn’t include meals.

4-H announces midweek spaghetti dinner

The New Jerusalem 4-H group will have its 11th annual spaghetti dinner fundraiser from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 17 at New Jerusalem School, 31400 S. Koster Road.

Elks to host veterans dinner

The Tracy Elks Lodge will host its annual Vet Dinner starting at 5:30 p.m. March 20 at the lodge, 6400 W. 11th St.

The dinner raised more than $5,000 last year, and the money went to the Department of Veterans Affairs hospital in Livermore.

A raffle and a blind auction will accompany the roast beef dinner. The cost is $15.

State of the City luncheon on tap

City leaders and guest speakers from the San Joaquin Partnership will lead the annual State of the City luncheon from 9 to 11 a.m. March 24 at the Grand Theatre Center for the Arts, 715 Central Ave.

Tickets cost $15 at the theater box office. A tradeshow will take place during the networking portion of the event to highlight various business sponsors.

The ninth annual Latina Luncheon of the San Joaquin County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will begin at 9 a.m. March 25 at the Hilton Hotel, 2323 Grand Canal Blvd., in Stockton.

Former CEO of eBay and candidate for governor of California, Meg Whitman, will be the keynote speaker.

‘Last chance’ crab feed

The first crab feed of United Cerebral Palsy will begin at 6 p.m. March 26 at the Stockton Ballroom, 9650 Thornton Road, in Stockton.

Kinder’s Meats will team up with nonprofit Animal Rescue of Tracy to raise money so more animals can find safe homes. From 5 to 7 p.m. April 1, the deli will donate proceeds from its sales to Animal Rescue of Tracy.

Latina luncheon in Stockton

El Concilio will host its annual Latina luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 16 at the Lexington Waterfront Hotel, 110 W. Fremont St., in Stockton.

Award-winning painter Laura Lopez Cano and author and journalist Sonia Nazario will be the keynote speakers at the luncheon, which costs $35 per person to attend.

Alumni dinner tickets on sale

Tickets are on sale for the Tracy High Alumni Club’s 19th annual asparagus and tri-tip dinner.

The dinner, which raises funds for college scholarships, is scheduled for April 24 at the Tracy Community Center. The menu will include asparagus fresh from the Delta, tri-tip steak, baked potato, salad and French bread.

Tickets, $25 for adults and $10 for children 10 years and younger, can be purchased at the Tracy Press, Reich’s Pharmacy, Tracy Motors, Richard’s Men’s Wear, Vita Dolce and the Tracy High bookkeeper’s office.
