I once thought that Frank Aquila was merely a standard bearer for the gradual erosion of trust in the Republican Party. After all, how could a representative of “The Party of Lincoln” produce such a deep abyss of bizarre writings touting end-times eschatology, conspiracy theories and alternative histories?

But after Aquila’s Feb. 27 column (“Democrats: Fulfilling the Communist agenda”), I realized the brilliance of Aquila’s efforts. You see, Mr. Aquila is part of a communist fifth column that has infiltrated the GOP and is intent on destroying the party from the inside. This sinister strategy of “suicide by ridicule” is the agenda of operatives like Aquila and his “fellow travelers.”

Aquila’s conspiracy works like this:

First, whenever possible, promote bizarre guilt-by-association so as to discredit the GOP’s message. Ideally, this should be done, as Aquila does, using bald-faced lies and factually incorrect assertions. Democrats are “promoting pornography,” “infiltrating” big business and churches, and even treating “behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders.” This approach is usually done with greater subtlety than Aquila demonstrates, so as to creep — not run — toward ideological implosion, but global communism is on its heels with the fall of the Soviet Union and economic liberalization of China in recent decades.

Second, invert meaning using Orwellian Newspeak to further degrade the intelligibility of the GOP. This is a critical component of any totalitarian undertaking. He wrote that Obama and the Democrats are bent on “total disarmament” of the U.S. but doesn’t note increasing troop commitments in Afghanistan or military financing, writes that Democrats are “(permitting) trade to … the slave island of Cuba” while ignoring Republican support for constructive engagement of China back to the Nixon era — and the hit list goes on, deliberately undermining any effort at GOP policy coherence.

Third, he uses quotes from discredited conspiracy theorists. Aquila quotes a 1963 reading into the Congressional Record of conspiracy theories created by the crank Mormon extremist, Cleon Skousen. Since Skousen was a member of the paranoid (and anti-civil rights) John Birch Society and was accused by Dialogue: A Journal of Mormon Thought of “inventing fantastic ideas and making inferences that go far beyond the bounds of honest commentary,” we can only assume that Aquila’s goal in quoting Skousen was to finally rip away the thin paper wall separating Republicanism from mere paranoia, lending credence to the fears of all thoughtful Americans that the GOP has passed through the looking glass and has become a mirrored inversion of reality.

Fourth, he tries to misdirect with contradictory quotes from figures of authority. Aquila thoroughly understood that Ayn Rand’s radical libertarianism and anti-communism was also tinged by the strongest form of atheism. One of her quotes: “Faith is the worst curse of man, as the exact antithesis and enemy of thought.” Yet he strategically chose to quote Rand, thus undermining his previous claims about the ungodliness of the communist agenda. With that signal quote, he thereby managed to thoroughly derail any chance at GOP ideological coherence while simultaneously calling into question any commonality of purpose with libertarians.

Aquila’s efforts fit remarkably into the pattern recently seen with various tea parties throughout the land: Destroy the GOP by robbing it of any chance of influencing the public agenda; discredit the party in the minds of independents; obstruct any effort at governance at the state or national level; and continue to mire America in culture war dialog so as to suck all serious discussion out of the public sphere.

Well, Comrade Aquila, your brilliant efforts are now clear to us, and we will not let them stand!

I really don't think I called anyone a comunist. Maybe i did, I know that Obama has ties with people who are not fond of our country or capitalisum. Like Van Jones. I would like to think the president would keep better company, inviting Van Jones in to his administration was like a bank manager hiring a former bank robber as a janitor, just an example. The people who had accounts with that bank (example) protested and said what the hell are you hiring this guy for? He is a communist, meaning Van Jones. Obama is a progressive liberal which are all in the communist family tree. We the people have been keeping an eye on his hope & changes, he is not getting too far, his left liberal base is disolving under his feet. I wish the best for obama, he's our president, I just think he is too liberal for this countrys real in grained spirit of being to the center.

You and I agree on many things Tom, the gang issue and the need for all of us to help the family of Cindy Ramos, but here we don't. I just find that calling anyone a Communist or if the left calls anyone on the right a term just because they disagree with each other solves nothing and gets us no where.

But that's okay, life would be dull if all gave each other a high five on everything we say.

Have a great day Tom :o)

doors17, yes you are correct. this is why frank and people like him, or me, who will take the time out and show the people exactly what we think is occuring with our nation. i wouldn't have ever known of Van Jones if it wasn't for watching glenn beck one afternoon. people can rant all they want on glenn beck but, he has proven some seriouse points. 1 van jones 1 obama = 2 or as in 2scary people.

The right loves to point out that Fox and right wing radio dominate the ratings, but then the left can always come back with it doesn't matter since they have won the past two elections. McDonalds sells the most hamburgers in the world but I don't know of anyone who thinks that's because they have the best tasting hamburgers. Every list for cable ratings overall first and second place either goes to Sponge Bob or Pro Wrestling.

Both sides always get about 40% in each election from their base who always vote a straight ticket, it's the 20% of independent voters who always decides the winners. If the election were being held today I'm sure the Republicans would most likely win back the House, but that could change by election day if things start improving to the satisfaction of the independents.

Tom Turkey, with all due respect to you, if you and I were to go up to a hundred different people today and showed them a picture of Van Jones, Karl Rove, Paris Hilton and Hulk Hogan, and asked them to identify them, is there really any question that Paris and Hogan would win in a landslide ? It's sad but that's the reality.

Yes, I do believe what Frank writes. The freedome in this country is now ran by the left liberals, for the most part. It is easy to anger liberals by us speaking the truth, exposing what there way of life is and how they want to ruin this countrys freedoms and capitolisum. So i cut and past my previouse quotes below.

On the last letter, I tossed out an example of a ladys thought, China does not allow pornography, it is outlawed. And in america it is not. I told her that certain things such as pornography is allowed in America. The left / liberals / believe this is fine in America as well as other issues. The same gos for other topics of discussion are fine with the left liberals such as for example anything like seperation of church from __________(you fill in the blanks) for example is also fine with the left liberals. As soon as there is TOTAL chaos in America due to soscial breakdown that resulted in attacking the world (and our constitution (ACLU does this all the time) that we know it, onlt then will the government re establish law and order in the disguise of a good thing and only then will the liberal government 'outlaw' things such as pornograhy in america (like communist china) and turn our once great nation into a total socialistic nation. This is where OBAMA wants to take us to. Frank is right on when he says the left / liberal / progressives want this nation just like Hugo Chaves Valenzuella or Cuba, or Iran. Wake up people. read below, and Van Jones was vetted!

~~VAN JONES~~ OBAMAS GREEN JOB CZAR

When he graduated from law school, Jones gave up plans to take a job in Washington, D.C., and moved to San Francisco instead. He got involved with Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement (STORM), a socialist group whose official Points of Unity "upheld revolutionary democracy, revolutionary feminism, revolutionary internationalism, the central role of the working class, urban Marxism, and Third World Communism." While associated with STORM, Jones actively began protesting police brutality.

TheSovereign, in attempting to call the GOP and its supporters fools and gullible, robs himself of all credibility going on about his very own conspiracy theory. Classic.

This is why the progressives who write the letters the TP eds love to publish always bow out of the comments section, they end up getting schooled, each and every time. Marxist Davis doesn't even come around to try and defend his own comments any longer

I can't seem to understand the liberal logic that in order to fix overspending, we should spend more? Doesn't make sense to me. Almost as bad as the liberal logic that to stop an economic recession, we should give money to the people who caused it? I'll never understand the Dems....but sure, tell yourself that Obama is our savior Sovereign...

Sovereign

I would suggest you stop drinking that lib kool-aid. Then stop using the huff and puff for your talking points. President Reagan, the worst president ever and you talk about simple minded people, really. May I suggest you look in the mirror?

The worst president award hands down will go to barry.

Yes- he's even making the peanut farmer look good and that’s almost an impossible task.

This barry guy has declared war on the citizens of his own country. Cap and trade, OMNIBUS, BARRYCARE, Immigration reform, Card check, Stimulus( slush fund) , cash for clunkers and the list goes on. These are ALL issues that a majority of Americans are/were against. Individual liberty is slipping away. When a so called leader goes directly in conflict of the majority, only drastic consequences will follow. This presidency will be one for the books if it is allowed to be printed.

Bottom line, Fox is killing the other cable news. How can that be with the superior programming lineups like MSNBC- Radegan, Shultz, Maddow, Olberman or CNN & HLN- with Blitzer, Behar, King, Grace etc...?

"dcose, are you now implying that Obama created the deficits?"

His? Yes, why spend what you do not have. Or do you?

When you hand Congress a budget for 2011 that involves borrowing an extra $1,300,000,000,000 Obama owns it.

Simple, STOP OVERSPENDING.

to school your myopic narcissistic personage again... while Bush overspent by signing the budgets approved by a Democrat majority starting in 2006 the next decade trillion dollar deficits belong to the Communist/Socialist President, Mr. Obama.

8 years of deficits by Bush equals 1 year of Barack's.

dcose, are you now implying that Obama created the deficits? Even after the last president ran record deficits his whole administration, and the CBO stated that based on the last budget submitted by that president we were going to see deficits for the next 10 years to the tune of $8 trillion?

It took 3 Republican presidents over the last 30 years to run up a $10 trillion debt, with continuing deficits for the next 10, and you want to blame the guy trying to fix it.

Conservatives are a pretty pathetic bunch. If you don't like the news go make your own... oh, hey, you did, its called Foxnews.

The truth will set you free!

... the term “sovereign.”... Abraham Lincoln... once suggested that sovereignty was, “A political community, without a political superior."

Lincoln's July 4, 1861 Speech in context

Much is said about the "sovereignty" of the States, but the word even is not in the National Constitution, nor, as is believed, in any of the State constitutions. What is a "sovereignty" in the political sense of the term? Would it be far wrong to define it "a political community without a political superior"?

Sovereignty- not Sovereign

Could you at least get the context correct?

Abraham Lincoln, same speech closed with,

And having thus chosen our course, without guile and with pure purpose, let us renew our trust in God and go forward without fear and with manly hearts.

"... Ronald Reagan... the one that led this country down the path to financial disaster. See how simple you conservatives are, you quote one of the worst presidents of our if not all time"

By Roger Runningen and Hans Nichols May 14 (Bloomberg)

President Barack Obama, calling current deficit spending “unsustainable,” warned of skyrocketing interest rates for consumers if the U.S. continues to finance government by borrowing from other countries.

By Richard Wolf, USA TODAY WASHINGTON

President Obama sent Congress on Monday a record $3.8 trillion budget for 2011 that would boost war spending, trim some domestic spending and rely on $1.3 trillion in new borrowing.

A coming financial wreck spurred on by our President speaking from both sides of his mouth.

Hey Turkey, while you are so trying to tie things together, chew on this one.

* Bush family is friends with the Bin Ladens

* The Bin Ladens help out the Bushes by creating a staggering terrorist act

* The Bushes do what the can to tie this to Iraq

* Bush starts a war with Iraq to get government spending on defense contracts to go through without oversight.

* Government contractors that make out to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars, possibly Trillions

* Who makes out - Haliburton and The Carlyle Group.

* Who is tied to Haliburton - The Dick, Cheney

* Who is tied to the Carlyle Group - G. Bush SR, and James Baker

See with conservatives, you just have to follow the money. We had a war which cost us precious Americans lives and our hard earned treasures so Cheney and Bush could enrich their friends and family! Its the conservative way.

I defer to Lincoln for a succinct definition of the term “sovereign.” There are a number of lengthy, and sometimes convoluted, definitions, but Abraham Lincoln, as only he could do, explained it best when he once suggested that sovereignty was, “A political community, without a political superior."

We the people are The Sovereign, we are the leaders of this country. But why would simpleminded conservatives know anything about this unless you were told by Frank or Foxnews.

The lack of education on the right is staggering. The funny part is that conservatives keep trying to tell Americans how things are supposed to be, and they are always wrong. For 30 years you have been wrong, and the shape of the country right now is proof that the conservatives have no idea how to run a country. You can blame the guy trying to clean the mess up, but it has been 30 years of a failed conservative experiment that has put us in this situation. Thanks for nothing!
