Students and parents of Central School gathered for a night of reading on Thursday as they joined in the week of activities celebrating Read Across America, as schools throughout the district and country remember children’s author Dr. Seuss.

Central School’s reading night drew more than 200 students from kindergarten through fifth-grade and their parents as they came to listen to stories read by teachers and community members. Students were encouraged to wear their pajamas to the event.

The school also had a book fair along with the reading program, and every child left with one new book.

Central School continues its reading adventures with a Half-Million Minute Challenge, in which all the students pledge to read or be read to for a half-hour each day for the next six weeks. At the end, if they meet their goal, Principal Nancy Link will submit to one of the many suggestions student and staff are preparing for her — from dancing on the roof to dying her hair blue.
