Saturday, Kimball High School kids will have a chance to mingle with their school’s namesake, a longtime doctor and Tracy resident.

Dr. John C. Kimball will help dedicate the new campus starting at 10 a.m. in the school’s theater, 3200 Jaguar Run. Tracy Unified School District Superintendent James Franco will speak, and students will perform.

Tours of the campus will start at 11 a.m., followed by refreshments in the cafeteria.

Kimball High School opened in August for freshmen and sophomores.

Kimball, who was a founding director of the Westside Bank and team doctor at Tracy High School for 40 years, until 1994, has said he’s humbled the school adopted his name.

Principal Cheryl Domenichelli said Kimball is an inspiring role model with an extraordinary sense of community and respect for education.

“He believes that all students should reach their maximum potential and that it is the duty of the school to make sure we’re providing those opportunities and then supporting students,” she said.

The first day of school, Kimball told the inaugural group of students their success will set a standard for generations to come.

Domenichelli said the students listened.

“They’re really doing a good job,” she said. “The tone and tenor of the school is becoming solidified, and he’s very instrumental in that.”
