Youth Hoops: City league enters championship rounds

Teams in the Tracy Recreation Department’s Youth Hoops league entered the first round of playoffs last weekend, which set up the championship matches for today. The final standings are still to be determined for three of the divisions.

Third-and fourth-grade boys

Legends 19, Knights 9


The top-seeded Legends won their first-round playoff game to advance to the division championship at 2:05 p.m. today at Williams Middle School, 1600 Tennis Lane. The Legends, lead by Drew Reddick’s 15 points, jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Tyler Ramos added two for the winners. Brandon Gee led the Knights’ offense with five points, and A.J. Panqalimon added three.

Lakers 23, Warriors 15

The third-seeded Lakers had a 12-8 lead after the first quarter and sealed the win by outscoring the Warriors 5-0 in the third quarter to advance to the championship. Isaiah Hawthorne scored 10 points for the winners, while Jesse Perez added seven, Filip Martinez three and Alex Gomez two. Alex Faasilia led the Warriors with five points, Andrew Pilkerton scored four, Elijah Seccoquin three and Ryan Ma two.

Blackhawks 13, Bulls 10

In the division’s consolation playoff bracket, the Blackhawks picked up their first win of the season with an upset of the Bulls. The Blackhawks took a 10-4 halftime lead and held on for the victory. Isaac Natividad led the Blackhawks’ scoring with five points, while both Saul Virgen and Hunter Dario added three apiece. For the Bulls, Jacob Vails scored four points, Murphy Gabriel three and Nigel Wilkins two.

Celtics 25, Cyclones 16

The Celtics worked their way into the consolation bracket championship with a sound win over the Cyclones. The Celtics scored 11 points in the first quarter and poured in nine more in the third. Dathan Satchell scored 16 points for the Celtics, Seth VanKatwyk added six and Jacob Hink two. No scoring information was available for the Cyclones.

Third- and fourth-grade girls

Lakers 19, Shooting Stars 5


The Lakers (8-0) continued their domination of their division with a win over the Shooting Stars (2-6). The game was close for the first quarter, but the Lakers shut out the Stars the rest of the game and pulled away for the win. The Lakers had six different players score in the game, led by Ariel Johnson’s six points. Samantha Serrato added five points for the winners, and Olivia Dawe tossed in four. No scoring information was available for the Shooting Stars.

Lady Shooters 10, Golden Shooters 7

The Lady Shooters (3-5) rallied from a 6-7 deficit in the fourth quarter to pull out a win over the Golden Shooters (3-5) and move into a tie for second place. The runner-up spot will be determined in the last game of the season today. Neenah Young scored nine of the Lady Shooters’ 10 points, eight of them in the second half, to secure the win. Nicole Kiester scored three for the Golden Shooters, and Karllesa Mitchell added two.

Fifth- and sixth-grade boys

Blackhawks 21, Defenders 14


The Defenders’ four-game win streak ended in the first round of the playoffs with this loss to the Blackhawks. The Defenders cut a 6-12 deficit to three points in the final quarter, but the Blackhawks scored four points late in the quarter to advance to the championship game at 4:35 p.m. today at Jefferson School, corner of Chrisman and Linne roads. Leading the Blackhawks was Dylan McLeod with seven points, while both Kendall Gilbert and Hunter Losen added six. Zackery McIntosh led the Defenders with nine points, and Austin Austin and Rory Flynn added two each.

Lakers 26, Celtics 23

The Lakers downed the Celtics in a close contest to work their way into the championship game. The Celtics held a 19-12 lead entering the final quarter. Behind Conner Hill’s eight fourth-quarter points, however, the Lakers outscored the Celtics 14-4 in the final quarter for the win. Hill scored 17 points for the game, and teammate Tyler Fratus added five more. For the Celtics, Jake Hiltachk scored 12 points, Zachary Cortright scored six and Trevor Baker tossed in four.

Bulldogs 23, Heat 16

In the first round of the consolation-bracket playoffs, the Bulldogs upended the Heat to move into the consolation championship. The game was close until the Bulldogs outscored the Heat 10-2 in the third quarter. Lance Arguello led the Bulldogs with eight points, Austin Goulart added six and Nick Goulart tossed in five. For the Heat, both Nikhil Anoop and Amal Thommil scored seven points and Logan Steinberger added two.

Nuggets 24, Terminators 11

The Nuggets moved into the consolation championship as they jumped out to a 10-4 halftime lead and continued to outscore the Terminators to pick up the win. Sebastian Lindain scored 14 points for the winners, and Mason Sheen added six. Antonio Soto led the offense with seven points, while Keita Moore and Kushal Sekhon added two each.

Fifth- and sixth-grade girls

Teal Tigers 18, All Stars 7


The Teal Tigers (6-2) bounced back from two losses to pick up an important win over the All Stars (1-7). After a close first quarter, the Tigers turned up the offense and defense to take the win. The Tigers were led by Bailey Broker’s eight points. Teammate Sam Sarmeinto scored four, and Amaya Salas, Serena Rubio and Sarah Pedro each added two. Michelle Espinoza led the All Stars with three points, and Audra Calderon and Erika Concepcion scored two each.

Fury 14, Grapenators 3

The Fury (4-4) handed a loss to the Grapenators (5-3). Rian Kazakevich scored five points for the Fury, and Arielle Villena added four. Kelcy Telles led the Grapenators with two points.

Seventh- and eighth-grade coed

Bulls 34, Sharks 10


The Bulls (6-2) came back from a pair of losses with this win over the Sharks (3-5). The Bulls scored 10 points in the second quarter and 10 more in the third to pull away. Josh Perez scored 12 points for the victors, Bryan Lopez added eight points and Cordale Satchell chipped in six. Marcus Faasasili led the Sharks with four points, while Mackenzie Decker added three and Monet James two.

Kings 33, Warriors 17

The Kings (6-2) remained in a tie for the top spot in the division with this win over the Warriors (1-7). The Kings were led by Sean Broker’s 10 points, while Cesar Chavez and Alfredo Weigner scored eight each and Eric Broker scored six. For the Warriors, Oliver Messier scored seven points and Chyrah Woods chipped in four.
