She was judged winner of the contest hosted last week by the Tracy Rotary Club. Speaking on the topic, “The Future is in Our Hands,” she stressed that too many people live in the moment without adequate thought to the future. “Decisions made now will affect our futures in many ways,” she said.
Runners-up in the Tracy Rotary Club speech contest were Upinderpreet’s sister, Tracy High freshman Arashpreet Gill, second; and Paramgik Bedi, a sophomore, third.
All received cash prizes from the sponsoring Tracy Rotary Club.
Upinderpreet will join Emily Sorg, a West High sophomore who won the Tracy Sunrise Rotary Club’s contest, in the area competition Feb. 24 at the First United Methodist Church. Student speakers from Tracy, Manteca, Lathrop and Ripon will take part.
