Tracy High’s wrestling team was ushered out early in the Sac-Joaquin Section team dual meet Saturday at Rosemont High in Sacramento.

The team from Elk Grove High took a 70-6 win over Tracy. The only wrestler to win a match for Tracy was Chase Nicholson, who pinned his opponent in the first round.

Coach Darryl Rond said that school issues, injuries and illness affected the rest of the team.

Elk Grove went on to beat Sheldon, 54-6, to make it to the final against Vacaville, which beat Grace Davis of Modesto, 73-6, in the first round and Folsom, 51-9, in the semifinal.

Vacaville beat Elk Grove, 38-15, in the final. Vacaville High has won the section team championship in Division I 16 times in the past 25 years, and has been in the final dual match 23 times. This is the seventh year in a row that the final match has been between Vacaville and Elk Grove.

Tracy’s team wrestles this coming Saturday for the San Joaquin Athletic Association championship at Chavez High in Stockton.

On the same day, West and Kimball wrestle in the Tri-City Athletic League tournament at Edison High in Stockton, where West still has a shot at a league title if the Wolf Pack and at least one other TCAL team can beat league leader McNair.

The best thing that you can say about this is that the season is finally over. Boys, if it's any consolation, I was that bad in Hastings, Nebraska, about 30 years ago as well. The "mat maidens" frequently took their breaks during my 'matches'. Apparently I did, too.
