West High’s varsity wrestlers competed in the Tim Brown Memorial Tournament in Sacramento on Saturday.

The tournament, named for a Foothill High School graduate who was killed in Iraq in 2006 while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps, draws teams from around Northern California for a preview of which wrestlers are likely to contend at the California Interscholastic Federation state tournament.

West placed 45th in the team scores, and three wrestlers from West — Justin Martin Del Campo (112), Trevor Manaois (119) and Kris Merrill (285) — finished a match away from the top eight in their 64-wrestler, double-elimination brackets.

Martin Del Campo went 3-2 for the day, Manaois was 4-2 and Merrill was 3-2. Daniel Mora (130) recorded an even 2-2 finish.

Wrestlers to go 1-2 for the day were Ulysses Juan (103), Daniel Austin (135), Adam Crandall (152) and Matt Mahe (215). Daniel Aflague (125) Jacob Biehl (140), Hewey Burnett (160) and Jose Sanchez (171) all finished 0-2.
