City councilman and Tracy Educational Excellence Foundation member Steve Abercrombie talks with Kelly School teacher Laura Lingen after awarding her a mini grant, one of several teachers in the district to receive the grant this week.

Lingen’s grant will be used so the school’s second-graders can study fossils. The special projects wouldn’t have been possible without the grants.

The Tracy Educational Excellence Foundation has been raising funds for the past year to assist teachers with various school projects.

Teachers throughout the Tracy area had the opportunity to apply for mini grants to help encourage and reward innovative teaching.

TEEF members reviewed the applications and selected the winners from schools in various districts, including Tracy Learning Center, Freiler School, Tracy High School, Stein High School, Kelly School, IGCG, West High School and Hawkins School. The mini grants awarded ranged from $75 to $500.
