The top two seeds in the fifth- and sixth-grade boys division were upset in the first round of the Tracy Youth Hoops league playoffs on Saturday. With just one week remaining, there are still a few divisions with big games this weekend that will determine division championships or runner-ups.

Third- and fourth-grade boys

Runnin’ Rebels 16, Blue Thunder 15: The Runnin’ Rebels clinched the championship in their division with a narrow win over the Blue Thunder, who entered the game tied for second place. In a game that ebbed and flowed throughout all four quarters, the Rebels outscored the Thunder 4-3 in the final frame to break a 12-12 tie and take the win. Collin Waddoups led the winners with eight points, and Rory Flynn chipped in five. Aaron Canafe led all scorers with 10 points for the Thunder, and Collin Harrington added three.

Legends 23, Heat 22: The Legends moved into sole possession of second place with a narrow win over the Heat. The win sets up a showdown Saturday between the Legends and the Blue Thunder for the runner-up spot in the division. The Legends held a 15-12 lead after the first quarter, but the Heat sliced the lead to one point by the end of the third. Both teams scored two points in the final frame. Noah Pajarillo scored 13 points in the win, and Justin Goulart added seven. The Heat were led by Antonio Soto’s nine points and Cameron Haynes’ five, while both Amal Thommil and Hayden Patzer each scored four.

Dragons 13, Celtics 12: In yet another one-point contest, the Dragons picked up their second win of the season with a victory over the Celtics. This game was decided in the final quarter, when Brandon Gee’s two points countered the Celtics’ single point edge. Gee led the Dragons’ offense, scoring a game-high six points, and Brendan Wells added four. Trevor Baker was the top scorer for the Celtics with five, and Alhyuth Varma added three.

Wildcats 17, Warriors 11: The Wildcats snagged their second win of the season. Ryan Ma led the Wildcats’ offense with six points, while Ryan Ott added three.

Third- and fourth-grade girls

Lakers 13, Tracy Heat 10: For the second week in a row, the division-leading Heat were upset. Once with a seeming lock on the division title, the Heat will have to win its final game of the season Saturday to claim the championship, while the Lakers will face off for either a division tie or the runner-up spot. The Lakers outscored the Heat 7-4 in the first quarter this past weekend and then held on for the win, matching the Heat’s offense the remainder of the game. Ariel Johnson scored five points to lead the Lakers, while Neehah Young chipped in four and Karlessa Mitchell added three. Sophia Shokoor led the Heat with four points, and Amaya Salas added two.

Lady Strikers 6, Rockets 5: The Rockets almost pulled off the upset of the season, losing a heartbreaker to the Lady Strikers. The Rockets held a narrow 5-4 lead entering the fourth quarter, but Mikayla Coelho’s basket in the final frame gave the Strikers the comeback win. Coelho led all scorers with five points. Nicole Pastrikas scored three points for the Rockets, and Kiara Kendall added two.

Fifth- and sixth-grade coed

Bulls 16, Nothing But Net 15: Nothing But Net entered the fifth- and sixth-grade coed playoffs as the No. 1 seed but were upended by the No. 4 Bulls. Net entered the final quarter down by a score of 16-10 and mounted a feverish comeback, outscoring the Bulls 5-0. The rally came up a point short, however, and Net will have to settle for a spot in the third-place game this Saturday, while the Bulls move on to the championship match. Both Imani McAlister and Cesar Chavez scored six points to lead the Bulls’ offense, while Conner Hill led Net’s scoring with a game-high 10 points.

Black Hawks 34, Lakers 17: The second-seeded Lakers were also upset victims, as the Black Hawks used a strong offensive performance from Sean Broker to take the win. After one quarter of play, the teams were tied at five points apiece. But the Hawks exploded for 29 points in the final three quarters to pull away to victory. Broker led all scorers with 14 points, including 12 in the second half. Kirk Orlanes added nine points in the win, while Hassan Sabling chipped in seven. The Lakers were led by Josh Soto’s 11 points and Tyler Fratus’ four.

Kings 22, Renegades 10: In the first of two consolation games, the Kings downed the Renegades behind Peter Vankatwyk’s game-high 10 points. The Renegades were shut out in the first half, and though they outscored the Kings in the second half, they couldn’t make up the difference. Isais Hunter scored six points for the winners, and Teinari added four. Nicholas Coulart and Cameron Sequra-Wells both scored three points for the Renegades.

Renegades 14, Warriors 11: In their second game of the day, the Renegades outscored the Warriors 5-2 in the final quarter to pick up their first win of the season. Nick Goulart led the Renegades’ offense with seven points, while Andrew Canafe added three. Marcus Silveira scored six points for the Warriors, and Abigail Mendoza added three.

Seventh- and eighth-grade coed

Warriors 36, Lakers 27: In a showdown for the top spot in the division, the Warriors jumped out to an early 11-0 lead and held on to down their division rival. The Warriors clinched the division championship with the win. Kenishi Silva led the Warriors’ offense with a game-high 16 points — Eric Chaverri added nine, and Ali Habal chipped in seven. Eddy Kaye led the Lakers’ offense with 10 points. Also contributing for the Lakers was Oliver Messier with six points, Kyle Pajarillo with five and Travis Santarina with four.

Panthers 32, Spartans 27: The Panthers picked up their first win of the season behind Torina Montalvo’s game-high 19 points. As in the earlier Warriors-Lakers game, the Panthers jumped out to an 11-0 lead after the first quarter and held on for the win. In addition to Montavlo’s 19 points, the Panther’s offense was helped by Imran Khan and Connor Pettipiece, who both scored four points. Jared Nahorniak led the Spartans with 18 points, and Gilbert Mata added seven.
