The previously undefeated Tracy Heat in the third- and fourth-grade girls division were upset this past weekend during city of Tracy Youth Hoops action. The fifth- and sixth-grade coed division finished its round-robin play, and the seedings were finalized for the playoffs. The battle for the division lead is getting hot in the third- and fourth-grade boys division, as three teams are within one win of the top spot.

Third- and fourth-grade boys

Runnin’ Rebels 23, Nuggets 16: With just two weeks remaining in league play, the Runnin’ Rebels held on to their lead in the division with a win. The Rebels outscored the Nuggets, 12-7, in the first quarter and never looked back. The Rebels relied on balanced scoring, Aaron Canafe with eight points, Collin Harrington and Dan Stavila with four each, and Bolaji Akinyemi and Jacob Hink with three each. Josh Diez led the Nuggets with five points, while Amari Brown and Jake Hiltachk each contributed four.

Blue Thunder 14, Dragons 11: The Dragons put a scare into the second-place Blue Thunder as they outscored the Thunder, 7-0, in the second half. The Thunder rode their 14-4 half-time lead to take the win. Ryan Kim and Collin Waddoups each scored four for the winners, and Isaiah Licas added three. Brian Huynh led the Dragons with five points, and Brendan Wells chipped in four.

Legends 20, Celtics 18: In another tight contest, the Legends held on to a piece of second place with a narrow win over the Celtics. The Legends built a 12-6 halftime lead and then held on as the Celtics outscored them in each of the final two quarters.

Wildcats 22, Heat 21: The Wildcats picked up their first win of the season in a hotly contested game. The Wildcats built a 20-13 lead after three quarters, and then had to hang on as the Heat outscored the Wildcats, 7-2, in the fourth quarter.

 

Third- and fourth-grade girls

Lady Strikers 9, Tracy Heat 6:
The second-place Lady Strikers upset the division-leading Heat in a low-scoring contest. The Strikers outscored the Heat, 5-2, in the first quarter. Brianna Serrato and Mikayla Coelho led the Strikers offense with three points each. Serean Rubio was high scorer for the Heat as she collected four points.

Lakers 28, Rockets 3: Ariel Johnson filled the basket with a game-high 15 points, while Neenah Young and Karlisa Mitchell each added six points. Kiara Kendall, Nicole Pastrkkas and Jocelyn Zamora each scored for the Rockets.

Fifth- and sixth-grade coed

Nothing But Net 26, Renegades 15:
Nothing But Net earned the No. 1 seed going into this weekend’s playoffs with a big win over the Renegades. Sojael Guilenn and Conner Hill each scored eight points, and Jake Serrato chipped in six in the win. Nicholas Goulart and Cameron Sequra-Wells led the Renegades with four points each, and Noah Wilkins scored three points.

Black Hawks 24, Bulls 16: The Black Hawks locked up the No. 3 seed and dispatched the Bulls to the No. 4 spot in the playoffs with this win. The Hawks had a narrow 12-10 lead entering the fourth quarter, but rode Sean Broker’s six-point outburst to outscore the Bulls, 12-6, in final frame to take the win. Broker led all scorers with 12 points for the Hawks, while both Kirk Orlanes and Hassan Sabling added four. Mason Sheet led the Bulls with eight, and Brian Lopez added four.

Kings 27, Warriors 25: The Kings held on for a narrow victory over the Warriors. After being outscored 10-2 in the first quarter, the Warriors battled back to cut the Kings’ lead to one point entering the final quarter, but the Warriors survived the comeback attempt. The Kings’ high scorer was Peter Wankatwyk with 14 points. Teinari Aiasau added five, and Elijah Hunter scored four. The Warriors’ Luis Ayala scored 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and Marcus Silveira scored eight.



Seventh- and eighth-grade coed

Lakers 26, Spartans 19:
The Lakers downed the Spartans to remain tied atop the standings, and set up a big showdown with the Warriors this Saturday for leader of the division. After a close first quarter, the Lakers outscored the Spartans, 11-3, in the second quarter to break the game open. Eddy Kaye led the Lakers with 11 points, while Kyle Pajarillo added nine, and Travis Santarina and Oliver Messier each scored six. The Spartans’ Jared Nhorniak led all scorers with 14 points, and Josh Perez added five.

Warriors 32, Panthers 17: The Warriors broke open a close game by outscoring the Panthers, 13-2, in the fourth quarter, led by Kenishi Silva’s eight fourth-quarter points. Silva scored 15 for the game to lead all scorers, and Ali Habal added seven for the winners. Torian Montavlo led the Panthers’ offense with eight points, and Monet James scored four.
