The competition included 57 Level 4 gymnasts and 60 Level 5 gymnasts.
In the Level 4 competition, Joshua Burdios, age 8, placed 11th all-around. He was seventh on the parallel bars, ninth on the vault table, 10th on the horizontal bar, 12th on the floor exercise, 14th on the still rings and 14th on the pommel horse.
Also in Level 4, Matthew Garay, age 8, placed 10th on floor, 10th on vault, 15th on the parallel bars, 16th on the horizontal bar, 17th on the rings, 18th on the pommel horse and 17th all-around.
In the Level 5 competition, gymnast Cameron Higgins, age 7, placed second on vault, 12th on floor, 15th on horizontal bar, 19th on the pommel horse, 20th on the parallel bars, 20th on the rings, and 17th in all-around. Elijah Sousa, age 10, placed 10th on floor, 10th on vault, 15th on parallel bars, 16th on horizontal bar, 17th on rings, 18th on pommel horse and 17th all-around.
The next competition for the boys team will be the High-Tech Invitational on Jan. 24. Wrestlers win medals in Escalon
The Tracy USA Wrestling Club traveled to Escalon on Saturday for the “Bad to the Mat” folk-style wrestling tournament, which drew young wrestlers from around the Central Valley.
The top contender for Tracy was Eli Blackwell in the intermediate division, who secured a second-round pin of his opponent from Central Catholic. Vanden Caudillo took first in the rookie division, and Angel Castillo placed fourth in the schoolboy division. Cougars finish second, third at AJAX tourney
The California Cougars Girls under-18 team finished second in the Modesto Ajax United Winter Invitational over the weekend in Turlock.
The Cougars opened with a 2-0 win over BFUT Academy Heat. Mallory Engelhardt and Valeria Ordaz scored the Cougars’ goals on assists by Amie Gillett and Alexis Poppoff. Goalkeeper Brianna Murawski posted the shutout behind the strong defensive play of Karly Dunning, Sarah Manseau, Michelle Russell, Alyssa Strope and Melissa Worthington.
The Cougars then defeated the Modesto Ajax United 91G, 3-0, on goals by Gillett, Sydnee Koscielecki and Sara Pimentel. Mariela Pimentel had two assists, and Marissa Matta added one assist.
In their third game, the Cougars tied the Davis Radiation, 1-1, on an Engelhardt goal, with Poppoff making the assist.
In the championship game against Modesto Ajax United Elite 92G, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead on a Poppoff goal, with Engelhardt assisting. However, Ajax scored right before halftime and in the waning minutes to win, 2-1.
The California Cougars Girls under-15 soccer team finished third at the invitational.
The Cougars opened with a 1-1 tie with Manteca United, as Stephanie Pawek scored the lone Cougar goal on a Lana Pineo assist.
In their second game, the Cougars tied Sonoma County Alliance, 0-0. Goalkeeper Victoria Case recorded the shutout behind the strong defense of Grace Cabri, Katia Gaytan, Taylor Long, Kristina Miles and Elizabeth Wuellner.
In the semifinal against Modesto Ajax United Elite 95G, the Cougars went up 1-0 on a Lauren Frizzi goal on Pineo’s assist before Modesto Ajax scored two goals in the second half to win, 2-1.
In the consolation game, the Cougars defeated the FC Sacramento Mustangs, 2-1, on two goals by Cabri, with Pineo assisting both times. Tracy girl competes in Roseville meet
Vinessa Navaez of Tracy, a member of the Edge Gymnastics Training Center team of Dublin, finished second all-around in Level 9 competition at the Roseville Invitational gymnastics meet at Sacramento State University this weekend.
Her all-around score of 34.2 included a second-place finish on the uneven bars, 8.6; third on the balance beam, 8.4; fifth on the vault; and 10th in the floor exercise.
