Kiwanis Club honored

The Tracy Kiwanis Club will have a meeting from 6:45 to 8 a.m. Jan. 4 at Perko’s Café, where the club will receive a $1,500 check from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

There will also be a ceremony recognizing the Kiwanis Club’s efforts at Stein and Kimball high schools, as well as with the Academy of Business and Law at West High.

Live music at the Plate

A trio of bands will offer live music at the Great Plate, 714 Central Ave., beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A $5 cover gets one in to see Jason mKey, 3 Dead in Washington and Machuko.

Pet food drive

Decadent Pets and the nonprofit Lucky Paws are asking for pet food donations to help out pet owners who are struggling financially.

The store is at 925 Central Ave., and people who buy pet food to donate can write off the cost on their taxes. In addition to dog and cat food, there’s a need for parakeet and cockatiel food.

Donations enable the nonprofit to serve free pet food from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

Yoga studio sponsors food, toy drive

Flow Yoga Studio’s toy drive ends today, but its food drive will continue until Dec. 30. Donations can be dropped off at the studio, 3602 Mars Way.

The toy drive will benefit Brighter Christmas, while the canned food will go to Tracy Interfaith Ministries. Anyone who donates food or toys will receive a free yoga class.

Goods needed for Tracy Interfaith

Tracy Interfaith Ministries has a need for towels, sheets, blankets, heaters, warm clothing, pots and pans, kitchen utensils, small appliances and other household items.

Tracy Interfaith helps out needy people in Tracy. Donated goods can be delivered to 311 W. Grant Line Road between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Volunteers are also needed to help sort, pack and deliver Christmas baskets through today.

New TAAA officers

The Tracy African American Association will have a ceremony next month to announce its new officers for January 2010 through December 2011, including vice president Fred Cole and recording secretary Margie Forehand.

The ceremony will begin at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 9 at the North School multipurpose room, 2875 Holly Drive.

Goodwill donations

Goodwill has opened a donation center outside of the West Valley Mall, 3200 Naglee Road, and it will collect donations until Dec. 31.

Financial aid night

Students and parents are invited to attend a “Cash for College” financial aid night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Emma Baumgardner Theatre at Tracy High School, 315 E. 11th St.

People will be on hand to help students go over, step by step, the online application for grants and other aid. People can learn more about financial aid at www.calgrants.org.

Questions sought for candidates

Organizers of a political forum for congressional candidates, hosted by the South San Joaquin Republicans, ask folks to submit questions that might be posed.

The forum will take place Jan. 11 at Crossroads Grace Community Church, 1505 Moffat Blvd.

Five candidates for office are expected to take part in the forum, and a big crowd is expected. Questions can be submitted via e-mail to mantecarepublicans@yahoo.com or by calling Frank Aquila, 825-0123.
