EDITOR,

What’s gone wrong? Can we pin it down? Is there an answer? Is it we the people? Can it be our elected officials? Do we really care?

Is it the way we entertain ourselves? I mean, who doesn’t like to watch someone else go down in flames? It’s the new favorite show, tune in tonight! Never mind the number of women Tiger Woods had “transgressions” with. How many people do you know that can hit a fire hydrant and then a tree and go to sleep on the grass without giving some blood to the police?

There seems to be a double standard with law enforcement — perhaps that’s what’s gone wrong.

The fact the news is covering what is going to happen to his vehicle over what is being done about the accident is mind-blowing. He was snoring when police arrived — again, our entertainment. For those in the public that can’t get enough, the next time a vote comes up on the death penalty or on bringing back public hanging, make sure you vote right away! It would be the ultimate crash-and-burn we’re looking for.

The story with Tiger Woods isn’t over by a long shot. But it is a story that shouldn’t be on the front page of any newspaper in this country until more pressing news has been addressed.

The banks are starting to pay back the bailout money they were loaned — isn’t that a good thing? Well, yes it is, until we learn the only reason that is being done is to keep caps from being put on CEO bonuses. But hey, let’s focus on Tiger!

Ummm... think again about the whole "fell asleep and was snoring" scenario. It makes a whole lot more sense that Mr. Woods was knocked unconscious and suffering from significant upper airway trauma- specifically, he was probably clobbered across the mouth with a golf club, and probably more than once.

Walk through it this way- Mrs. Woods is told about Mr. Woods' infidelities. Mrs. Woods grabs a golf club and goes to work on Mr. Woods' face. Mr. Woods flees for his life, but is so disoriented (head trauma will do that to you)that he crashed his SUV.

The neighbors who show up report him "snoring" and being "asleep". But he's intubated when he is taken to the hospital. A patient is intubated (among other reasons) when he or she is unable to maintain an open airway- as happens with massive soft tissue swelling due to facial trauma. It all points to Mr. Woods having been accosted. Which makes me wonder if Mrs. Woods will face attempted murder charges if and when all the details come out.

Ever wonder why there were no public appearances in the wake of these events? Makes perfect sense that he was waiting for the swelling to go down.

Other than that, though, yeah, it's pathetic that the American public is more interested in a celebrity's dalliances than they are, apparently, in important stuff like health care reform.
