Medha Kothari, a sixth-grader at Bethany Elementary School in Mountain House, earned second place in the fourth-through-sixth-grade division of the San Joaquin County Spelling Bee on Dec. 9 and will advance to the California State Elementary Spelling Championship on May 15 at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park.
