To help prevent the future generation from falling into an even worse economic crisis, it is important that they are educated on how to become successful by maintaining a job. The best way to ensure this education is to provide a work experience program in all high schools.
It is an arguable point to make that, with the incredible amount of studying that must be done, students should focus solely on their studies, that they shouldn’t have the distraction of a job to worry about. There is truth in the fact that studies are important and require much attention. However, rather than distract students from their education, a work experience program would actually further the education that many high school students are working toward.
Having a work experience program at school would give participating students a better understanding of the skills required to be employed, and would allow students to build on those skills. It would not only give them opportunities to build employability skills, but also encourage them to seek and acquire a secondary education.
During their high school careers, many students begin to question the importance of a college education. They are finally almost done with school and, suddenly, going to college isn’t such an appealing option. Why go through more school, when instead of paying the rising cost of tuition, they could go to work and generate an immediate income?
Through the work experience program, students would be made aware that going to college would give them more career options, which wouldn’t be available without a higher level of education. Students would also realize that earning a college education is proving itself to be more important today than in past generations.
Because of today’s economy, high school graduates are unable to obtain high-paying jobs that were once available. The cost of college tuition may be high, but the well-paying job opportunities a college education can offer will pay off over time.
Besides all of the lessons and skills that a work experience program would teach students, the experience itself is a significant part of the program. Gaining experience in different fields of work would give students valuable insight as to what they like and dislike about particular fields of work. This knowledge of their working preferences can help them make informed decisions later in life when deciding on possible life-long careers.
Without a doubt, a work experience program should be provided in all high schools. The program would help students develop and build on skills that will help them become employees for the rest of their lives. It will help them gain an understanding of the working world, as well as give them the opportunity to explore different career paths.
In America’s competitive economy, it is necessary to be educated to be successful. A work experience program would help ensure that education.

A good solid education includes aspects of real life and work experience should be part of that education.
I just wish real history which includes the facts behind the formation of our country and the principales behind it would be taught in all public eduacation classrooms throughout our land.
Our youth would see that it was hard work by the individuals in our country working for the good of God, Family and Country is what really made us the best amongst all nations.
Individual liberty is what made us great and that is ONLY acheived through hard work.
Unfortunately, we have a major revisionist history being taught in many classrooms across our country.
Hard work and a very solid education in facts regarding our history along with learning excellent reading skills and a solid mathematical education are primary for the individual.
This also includes a proper education by loving parents who try to set the good examples in our homes. It reads like you have this, Megan.
Great read, outstanding recommendation. I hope all of high school students in Tracy feel exactly as you do.
