A man was found dead in his central Tracy home Tuesday afternoon in what police have called a homicide, Tracy’s fourth of the year.

Police said Clayton “Cotton” Riggins, 72, was killed by some kind of blow, though police are still trying to figure out what that was. An earlier report that he was hit over the head was inaccurate, said police spokesman Sgt. Tony Sheneman.

Riggins was found dead in his home this afternoon lying in a pool of blood.

Police got a call from a neighbor at 3:27 p.m. that a man in his 70s was on the floor of his home on the 500 block of West Carlton Way. Sheneman did not know whether the man lived with anyone else.

Police walked through the unlocked front door of Riggins’ home, and there were no signs that the home had been broken into, Sheneman said.

Animal rescue officers collected two small dogs from the house, which had a white Chevrolet S-10 parked outside with its hood up.

Neighbors who were standing outside the house refused to comment.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

I most certainly compliment the user named "sicofit" for their very sencible and truthful statement.

I now will severely chastise and criticize the village idiot........Oh,excuse me I meant to say user named "dukejack". For his/her complete insanity. You're the kind of idiot who gives us gun owner's a bad name. If it weren't for your type, Second Amendment Rights wouldn't be associated with reactionary fool's like yourself. Who as it prove's from your statement posted are as equally dangerous to good innocent folk's as this monster who bloodgeoned this poor old man. A guy like you might easily gun down an innocent bystander minding their own business just because you don't like their looks.

Indeed if I were your neighbor, which I certainly hope I'm not and whoever is I feel very sorry for. I would not only have to keep a lookout for scummbag, dope pushing, young kid corrupting, murderous gang member's like these disgusting beast's. But, trigger happy nut cake's like yourself.

Yes indeed I would keep my trusty old Remington Semi-Auto nearby with such scum as they are and idiot's as you are running around.

Anyway, for anyone interested. That "one block" section of West Carlton is rife with gang banging scum. When it was announced that it took place on W. Carlton, it sadly didn't surprise me! I can only imagine that, this nice old man stood up to these jerk-off's and either threatened to or had previously called the cops on these so n' so's!!

Like this poor old man, I also live half surrounded by "Gang Member Scum" in my neighborhood. Directly across the street from me and down the block on both corner's, they're there. Our street, although a lot older. Still isn't as bad off as poor West carlton between Holly and Parker. I grew up in that neighborhood, just down a bit. So no dissing the old part of town. it's my home!!

Here ya go people. For those of you that want to complain about our public safety people and how much they earn, here is another glaring example. This is why we have police and fire services, so we don't have to deal with this stuff, we pay highly trained people to handle the bad things in our community.

I hope they catch whomever did this and string them up from a pole in front of city hall. This makes 4 this year. This is a sad reflection on our community.

Yep - that "crime scene tech gal" is working hard... and at the City Council Meeting they said they're going to lay off 1/2 of the crime scene techs the city has... leaving only 2! Who's going to do the work then??

Only person that seems to working judging by the pictures provided above; is the cute crime scene tech gal. All the "investigators" look like they just woke up. No wonder TPD is going to expericance job cutbacks. Condolences to the respected family. Looks like another senseless crime. Put deadbolts on your windows/doors with a 357 mag under the pillow....cause I already am.

"Slain" is just too nice TP, this 72 year old man was murdered. What is happening in this town? Thugs running wild, police can't protect you. Get a gun while you can. Shoot first, then call 911.

Wow, four in a row this year? Very sad.

I wonder if we have to wait for Christmas to get an answer from our Congressman as to why the Tracy Police Department got turned down (this year) for federal funding - without a peep?
