Officers from the Tracy Police Department were on hand Thursday to help than Stein School Key Club students who headed a clothing and food drive throughout the school. The students were originally working for 360 articles of clothing but ended their two-month long clothing drive with more than 2,600 articles of clothing, ranging from shoes and socks to coats and gloves.

The clothing was donated to Interfaith Ministries, and students are now working toward a can food drive goal of 2,700 pounds. They are currently at the 300-pound mark with a few weeks left before the food is divided among local charities for distribution.

The Tracy Police Department has been working with the Stein High Key Club and Stein High to interact with the students and show them opportunities in law enforcement.

During the Thursday visit, the students got to see some of the department’s technology, including the mobile command center, patrol car video camera systems and computer terminals.

The day was capped off with a demonstration by a K-9 unit.

The Key Club student and school staff who spearheaded the food and clothing drives were treated to lunch by De Vinci’s.

The Officer in those photos isn't "Brian" Hicks - it's BRETT Hicks.

Glad to see the work they do at school, churches, walmart, etc. I wonder if the new chief would consider starting something like a pancake breakfast with cops too? Just a thought. I know they do coffee with a cop already. Hope more businesses will jump in to help promote it. Would be a nice way for a GRAND OPENING for new shops in the Downtown. Invite the TFD for carseat safety inspections too. That's what the hospital does. And it seems to work.

2 Thumbs Up to all involved. It's great to see kids learning what community is all about, and it's terrific that TPD is having positive interactions with the students. Seems like a win-win for everyone. :D
