Help ‘Feed the Need’

Organizers of the 12th annual Feed the Need dinner at the Great Plate are looking for some help. So far, one turkey has been donated. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 26, the restaurant will open its doors to whoever needs a hot meal. Last year, nearly 500 people were fed.

Holiday craft fair coming soon

The American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network will host a holiday craft fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Masonic Hall, 1601 N. Tracy Blvd. The event will include a ceremony, presentation and awards. The price to reserve a table is $20.

Friends of the Library to meet

Tracy Branch Library will host its annual meeting at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Wadsworth Room of the library, 20 Eaton Ave.

The meeting will be run by Tracy Friends of the Library and is open to all residents. Tracy Friends of the Library is a group that raises money for the library and advocates on its behalf.

Learn about the stars

The Tracy Historical Museum will sponsor a talk by Lloyd Altamirano at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Lolly Hansen Center, 375 E. Ninth St.

Altamirano, a former president of the Stockton Astronomical Society, will discuss astronomy. This event is free.

Free food available

Low-income residents of San Joaquin County can pick up free government surplus food Thursday at 15 spots, including from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Larch Clover Community Center, 11157 W. Larch Road, in Tracy.

Total monthly income cannot exceed $1,354 for one person, $1,821 for two people, $2,289 for three, $2,756 for four, $3,224 for five or $3,691 for six. Participants must take a grocery bag.

Santa’s Closet opens this week

Santa’s Closet, an annual holiday boutique, will return from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 21 at 1839 Camellia Drive. There will be gifts for purchase, including ornaments, jewelry, bookmarks, sock monkeys and homemade sweet mustard.

All proceeds from a gift basket raffle will go to Brighter Christmas.

Moose Lodge hosts Thanksgiving

The Tracy Moose Lodge will host a traditional Thanksgiving dinner from 1 to 5 p.m. Nov. 22 at 35 E. Sixth St. Tickets for the dinner, which is open to the public, are $5, or $2.50 for boys and girls age 6 and younger. Those who attend will dine on turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, string beans, rolls and dessert.

Seniors plan Thanksgiving dinner The Lolly Hansen Senior Center will have its annual Senior Thanksgiving Dinner on Nov. 23. The dinner will serve about 350 local senior citizens at the center and more than 50 homebound seniors with a meal delivered to their doors.

Free Thanksgiving meal offered

Center of Hope Church will host a free dinner from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thanksgiving day, Nov. 26, at 2514 Holly Drive. Turkey will be served, with all the fixings, as well as pumpkin pie and beverages.

The Fisherman Band will provide live music, and there will be prizes and games for children.

Volunteer bell ringers needed

The Salvation Army Service Center, 241 E. 10th St., needs volunteer bell ringers for the holiday season, Nov. 27 through Dec. 24. Bell ringers collect money to help residents of Tracy.

Students collect used cell phones West High School’s Community Leaders of America will collect used cell phones throughout the month of November. Cell phones can be sent to West High School or dropped off in the main office of the school, 1775 W Lowell Ave., in care of Jared Rio.

The cell phones will be sent to U.S. servicemen and -women with calling card minutes so they can to call their families.

Coat drive is under way

Century 21 M&M and News 10 are sponsoring a Coats for Kids drive through Dec. 18 at 912 W. 11th St. Residents are asked to donate gently used or new coats and jackets. Every coat donor will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win cash prizes of as much as $1,000.

Republicans to debate after New Year

Five Republicans vying for a congressional seat will have a debate starting at 6 p.m. Jan. 11 at Crossroads Grace Community Church, 1505 Moffat Road, in Manteca.

Former U.S. Marshall Tony Amador, construction company owner Robert Beadles, wine-grape grower Brad Goehring, businessman Larry Pegram and educator Jeff Takada will be the candidates featured.

The debate will part of the South San Joaquin Republicans meeting.

Women’s conference planned

The Tracy Women’s Forum has announced that its 12th annual Women’s Conference, with the theme “Live Your Best Life,” will take place from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 12 at the Tracy Community Center, 950 East St. Speakers have yet to be lined up.
