West High senior Jordan Richardson made it official this week when he signed his letter of intent to attend Weber State University in Ogden, Utah.

Richardson joined the West High basketball program over the summer after he and his family moved to Tracy from Louisville, Texas. He was part of West varsity coach Derek Sprecksel’s team that went 37-7 during summer league, including a stretch of 25 wins in a row.

Weber State, last year’s NCAA Division I Big Sky Conference champion, offered him a full basketball scholarship back in the summer, and Richardson made a verbal commitment at that time to play for the Wildcats starting next fall.

In the meantime, Richardson plans to help West High have a successful season. The team started practice this week and will begin games Nov. 24.

“It seems like the team’s going to be athletic and will be able to get up and down the court for easy fast breaks,” he said. “I’m just going to go out and play hard like I always do, and play with passion.”
