Tennis players eliminated in first round

Local tennis players were eliminated from the Sac-Joaquin Section individual tournament on Thursday at In Shape Sports Club, West Lane, in Stockton.

West High’s doubles team of Jasmin Fonseca and Emma Bell came the closest to making the second round with two sets that went to tiebreakers against Alexa Lawler and Janet Xu of Merced High. The Merced team won that match 7-6(7-3), 7-6(7-3).

Tracy sophomore Renata Guzman faced Danielle Mirda of Napa in the first round, and Mirda won 6-3, 6-3. The Tracy doubles team of Paige Noonan and Madeline Geibig nearly came back in the second set against Stephanie Isenberg and Charlotte Sofranek of Merced High. The Merced team won it 6-2, 7-6(7-1).

Champions will be determined in the singles and doubles on Friday.
