A Tracy soldier seeks the community’s help for supplies his unit will need when it deploys for Iraq in April.

Sgt. Sterling Stauch, a 2003 graduate of Tracy High School, is the sniper employment officer with the sniper section of the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. His unit delivers long-range precision fire and also gathers and reports battlefield information.

This will be Stauch’s third tour of duty.

In a letter, the sergeant said his department is often underfunded and listed several items that could be useful to his unit, such as a GPS device, sharpening stones and sunglasses.
