West had been ranked 16th as of the third week of October, when the Wolf Pack was 4-3 in league play. West then lost to Tokay and St. Mary’s, and beat McNair and Stagg to finish at 6-5, third place in the league and 18th in the final power ratings.
That left West right behind Chavez High of Stockton and Kennedy of Sacramento, who tied for 16th place and will play on Monday to see which team faces top-ranked Oak Ridge in the first round. Edison was ranked eighth in Division I, and St. Mary’s is the top-ranked team in the Division III playoffs.
Teams from the San Joaquin Athletic Association include Lincoln and Lodi, tied for first place in their league, with Lincoln ranked fourth in the section and Lodi ranked sixth. Chavez was third in the SJAA. Tracy High’s girls finished in fifth place in the SJAA.
