The skate complex in El Pescadero Park is nearly completed and will open in several weeks.

Farmer Louie “Gee Gee” Galli has been named Agriculturist of the Year, and Nanette Martin of Martin Farms is Agribusiness Person of the Year. They will receive the awards at the annual luncheon sponsored by the Tracy Chamber of Commerce.

Tracy teenagers have fanned across town in a Make a Difference Day scavenger hunt to benefit local charities.

25 years ago — 1984

Tracyite Dee Miller has created a Garden Grandma doll to “babysit” the Cabbage Patch Kids that are so popular.

The St. Mary’s Rams dumped the Tracy High Bulldogs, 15-7, in the annual Tracy homecoming game. Shannon Borges and Jo-El Mellish were homecoming king and queen.

Teacher protests about the lack of a new contract are believed responsible for 44 Tracy High teachers being out of school in a “sick-out.”

Army Sgt. Sal Cuellar of Tracy is patrolling the Berlin Wall as part of his duties with the Berlin Command.

50 years ago — 1959

Tracy youngsters in all kinds of costumes flocked to Tracy High’s Peter B. Kyne Field for the annual Halloween party sponsored by the Tracy Optimist Club. Prizes were awarded to winners of the costume contest.

Matthew Paul is the name Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Foster have given their son, born Oct. 22 at Tracy Community Memorial Hospital.

75 years ago — 1934

Vierling Kersey, state superintendent of instruction, talked to local educators at a meeting in the Tracy High auditorium.

Drilling for natural gas is continuing in Corral Hollow Canyon southwest of town. Good prospects are reported.

Political campaigning is reaching a fever pitch as Election Day nears. Gov. Frank Merrimam says Sinclair Lewis’ “End Poverty in California” campaign will make California “the poorhouse of the nation.”

100 years ago — 1909

Tracy-area voters have approved the formation of a high school district. They supported a ballot measure, 181-58. The proposed district would include Willow (Tracy), Lammersville, Jefferson, Valley (Banta) and New Jerusalem elementary districts.

Organization of the West Side Board of Trade is continuing. (It later became the Tracy Chamber of Commerce.)
