The Wolf Pack freshmen logged their first win, 27-7 over Edison High in Stockton Thursday night. West (1-4-2) ran up a 27-0 score in the first quarter and put up a defense that shut down the Vikings for all but one drive, which came in the third quarter when Edison scored its only touchdown.

“We started off really strong and played well the entire game,” coach Demetrius Ball said. “We executed from the first quarter on.”

West got on the scoreboard with Daniel Villasenor’s 2-yard touchdown run to start the first quarter. For West’s second touchdown quarterback Bobby Landrum carried the ball around the right side and ran it in 60 yards for the score.

West’s Martin Garcia forced the Vikings to fumble toward the end of the first quarter and Jordan Serna picked it up. That set up another touchdown drive, capped by Villasenor’s 20-yard run around the right side for the score. Villasenor scored another touchdown in the second quarter on an 8-yard run, and also went three-for-four on the night for point-after kicks.

Garcia was one of West’s defensive leaders with three sacks for the night, and Amrit Singh had four tackles.

Chavez 8, Tracy 7

Tracy was able to move the ball against the visiting Titans from Cesar Chavez High, but in all but one drive the Bullpups (0-5-1) ended up short. DeAndre Wilson scored Tracy’s lone touchdown midway through the first quarter on a 9-yard run. The Titans ran one into the end zone in the second quarter and took the lead on a 2-point conversion.

Coach Jay Fishburn said that it was another case of the team making progress on the field only to see it undone on mistakes and turnovers.
