NJB needs referees
National Junior Basketball youth basketball league is recruiting referees for the 2009-10 Season. Games will be played at Tracy and West High schools on Sundays from December through March.
NJB will host a referee orientation at 3 p.m. Sundat and a referee clinic at 3 p.m. Nov. 8. These are mandatory meetings for those who want to be certified as NJB referees.

Free physicals for prep athletes
Free physical exams will be Oct. 22 at West High for all high school athletes, including athletes from West, Tracy and Kimball High schools, who plan to participate in winter and spring sports.
Boys physicals will begin at 5:30 p.m. and girls physicals will be at 6:30.

Little League sign-ups
Tracy Little League is now taking sign-ups for the 2010 season. The league is open to players ages 4 to 14 as of April 30, 2010. Fees are $50 for ages 4 and 5 and and $135 for ages 6-14. New and returning players are encouraged to register on-line, and registration will close on Dec. 31. Tryouts are scheduled for Jan. 9 and 10.

City needs basketball coaches
The Department of Parks and Community Services needs volunteer coaches for the upcoming Youth Hoops basketball league. Youth Hoops is a recreation league for boys and girls in third through eighth grades. No previous coaching experience is necessary and free training is provided to all volunteers. Potential coaches must submit a volunteer application and pass a background check.

Youth Hoops sign-ups
The Department Parks and Community Services is now taking registration for its Youth Hoops basketball league. The league is open to boys and girls in third through eighth grades, with a coed league for the older players.
Registration fee is $70 per player, $75 for out-of-town players, and players can sign up through the city’s Web site, www.ci.tracy.ca.us/stareg, through Oct. 29. If space is still available after that, the city will host a sign-up day during the skills assessment on Oct. 31 at West High.

Trout Bout at Oak Grove
San Joaquin County Parks and Recreation and the Delta Fly Fishers will host the 25th annual Trout Bout on Nov. 21 at Oak Grove Regional Park on Eight Mile Road in Stockton. About 2,500 pounds of trout will be planted for the tournament, which is free for kids 15 and younger.
There will be four age divisions: 8 and younger; 9 to 12; 13 to 15; and 16 and older, with first place prizes going to the heaviest fish in each division.
There is no registration fee for the event, but a $3 fishing permit fee and valid California fishing license are required for participants age 16 and older. A $5 parking fee will also apply. Participants must supply their own fishing equipment.
Park gates open at 6:15 a.m., registration closes at 10 a.m. and the last weigh-in is at 12:30 p.m.
