Classic gymnasts collect awards

The team from Classic Gymnastics went to the OC Challenge Gymnastics Invitational, hosted by Orange County Gymnastics in Costa Mesa, on Saturday. The meet brought more than 20 gymnastics teams together from Northern California, Southern California and Arizona.

In Level 5 competition, Lauren Giles took second place all-around in the 12-and-over division — which included 16 other girls — with a score of 34.225. That included first place on the uneven bars, 9.15, and sixth in the floor exercise, 8.55.

Other results for Classic’s team are as follows:

Level 4

Nine-year olds: Payton Bryant took second on the balance beam, 8.65, third on the floor, 8.9, and fourth all-around, 34.85; Kaylin Dennington placed first on the uneven bars, 9.275, and fifth all-around, 34.775; and Catarina Borges was second on beam, 8.65, and eighth all-around, 34.075.

Ten- to 11-year-olds: Elizabeth Campbell took eighth on vault, 8.6, ninth on beam, 8.55, and ninth on floor 8.75; and Kalani Akers placed seventh on bars, 8.7.

Level 5

Ten-year-olds: Katelyn Garay was ninth all-around, 32.375; and Ellie Higgins took sixth on beam, 8.3.

Tracy gymnasts compete in Livermore

Local gymnasts with Gymfinity in Livermore competed in the It’s a Small World competition hosted by Gymfinity on Saturday.

Miranda May, competing in the Level 5 Older division, finished sixth all-around with a score of 34.250.

Sierra Norvell, competing in the Level 5 Younger division, finished 10th all-around with a score of 32.225, with a second-place finish on the floor exercises, 9.200.

Rachel Pombo finished 13th all-around in the Level 6 Older division with an all-around score of 29.625, including a second-place finish on the balance beam, 9.050.
