Mountain House will play host to a weekend of fun during the fourth annual Fall Carnival and Fun Run.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, families are invited to Wicklund Elementary School to take part in an afternoon of food and entertainment sponsored by Lammersville School District. All proceeds will go to Wicklund and Bethany elementary schools.

Mountain House will offer a way to burn off any calories packed on at the carnival with Sunday’s 5K and 10K Fun Run and Walk, which will kick off at Central Park.

Registration starts at 7 a.m., with free quarter-mile and half-mile fun runs for kids and a main event to follow. The cost of registration will go toward the community parks department.

Runners can register at the Mountain House Community Services District Web site — www.ci.mountainhouse.ca.us, under “community events” — or in person before the event.

Grand prize gift certificates from Fleet Feet in Pleasanton will go to the top male and female finishers of each race. Kids who take part in the free fun run will be given a finisher ribbon, and T-shirts will be given out to the first 100 people who register. There will also be a free breakfast and post-run snacks for participants.

According to Dan Lorain of AIM Consulting, which the district has hired to help coordinate events, the running surface is two-thirds asphalt and one-third decomposed granite. The park runs along a creek and other wetlands, and the course offers an opportunity for runners to set personal records, he said.
