EDITOR,

Anyone who has not been downtown in a while — which is easy if you live on the west side — should go see our soon-to-open, brand-new-and-gorgeous transit hub.

Located at Sixth Street and Central Avenue, the new building resembles many railway depots in California’s history. Or at least it seems like it does. Though new and beautiful, the building still fits in with downtown, while also classing up the place.

It’s worth the trip to go and see and is a good example of our tax dollars at work.

fortheunderdog-So good to her from you again. We have similar opinions on this subject. You said, "This building was built with the assistance of county grant money that could have been put to better use." I agree because they knew this recession was coming on and built it anyway. I think it's ugly and does not fit in unless they plant a whole bunch of tall trees. To late now.

mndc,

I looked up online some tips for gardening and read where too many plants allow burgulars a place to hide. Best to plant low lying and low water using plants according to the article I read.

I thought the Grand Station Cheeze Whiz garish when it opened, now I wonder how it looks with Transit Station nearby?

If all fails, turn it into a Casino!

It was once a gambling town, right?

CN

Just kidding about the Casino!

Hmmm. I recall that people thought the same thing about the Grand Theatre when it first opened. They didn't like how it looked back then either.

The transit building is nice...Now the outside of the Grand Theater, now that's ugly.

My point was to disguise the building. Whatever the rest of you did was go on a bizarre tangent for lord knows why, you got off track. The Building is ugly! That is all.

I was at a Starbucks in the Bay Area and they have astroturf in front of their store. The initial costs of installing astroturf is high but there are no reoccuring watering and sprinkler repair costs.

Since the Gov of CA is sending Obama a letter of demand that they intervene in the California's water crisis....

How about going Southwest theme in rocks, cactus plus plants that require minimal water?!

Might make the city stand out for showing their effort in re-inventing the landscape of the city?

Good luck.

Sounds just like Johnny Appleseed?

Actually, they had to remove the dirt. So you couldn't have planted trees without having to dig them all up again.

Trees would have solved the brown grass issue and been a lot cheaper

I didn't know the trees were the issue. Maybe one thought would be that it looks much better than the brown grass that used to be there?

Yes! Had Coke Float few times, didn't care much for it. But tried the Root Beer float at my friends' insistence....loved it since and now they are sorry, couldn't get enough of it! Also, coffee flavored ice cream in the coffee is fabulous!

Sorry Coke Company, A.W. Rootbeer won my vote!

My poor bike, all busted! Gonna get fat.

They could use some fun place to eat and drink.

Like Root Beer Float Shoppe!

Ok, ok, stretching it a bit, I know!

Glad you like them, too!

Mmmm, brownies!:)

Seriously, the first time you have ever had a rootbeer float? OMG, love them!

Yes they could use a coffee/bakery shop at he transit station or even a cute little convenience store.

2 suggestion for the Transit Station:

1. Peets Coffee Shoppe

2. Bagel/Pita Shoppe

Well, allow me to toss in a third one, only someone on this blog will understand...

3. Brownie/Fudge Shoppe!

Just had "Root Beer Float" the other night for the very first time, now that was good!!!

Darvocet talking.

Monsterdad3k,

NP. I take public transportation now and then and pay close attention to what's going on. Just doin' my part for the environment. In fact, I'll be taking ACE/BART to SF next week. I like to mix it up. Driving and public transportation when I can. It's good to know the options and I think having a place in Tracy where different transportation services can leave their brochures will help get people informed of their options. The Tracy Press could go there and get the information. Currently, I don't think the TP is even aware of all the options available, but I could be wrong.

If BART ever comes to Tracy it would probably be eBART extension through Byron/Antioch area before the Livermore. But, yes the extension to Livermore was discussed by BART just a few years ago. They deleyed it and went for the Pleasanton Station at the Pleasanton Mall instead.

However, I don't think it's as important to extend BART to Tracy, CA. The idea of an extendsion to Livermore could be quite nice. Folks could jump off of ACE and onto BART. Currently they have to jump off ACE in Pleasanton and take a shuttle to transfer to BART in Pleasanton. It works but it's a delay in the system that could be fixed with the Livermore Multimodal Station.

The ACE train also occasionally schedules A's, Raiders games, Great America, and other events, from the ACE Train Station in Tracy, CA.

PS: They have free wireless Internet on the ACE Train.

Who goes downtown on transit anyway? It will just be an empty building. 12million dollar empty building.

Never has been a demand for service in downtown Tracy. Waste of our money and Brent Ives did a huge disservice to the real commuters who do use transit to commute to work. Why was this not built at the Altamont station?

Thanks ShiloN for all the info on the transit options available for the new station. Wasn't aware of any of them, mostly because I don't use public transit. I see how it can be an asset.

I seriously doubt we will ever see BART come to Tracy, since San Joaquin county is not one of the counties that pays taxes for BART. That and they just dug up all the medians along 580 through Livermore for car pool lanes makes a BART extension look pretty unlikely.
