A shopping center in southern Tracy that has been in development since January will open next month, developers said.

Red Maple Village, at the corner of South Tracy Boulevard and Valpico Road, will be anchored by a 58,500-square-foot Raley’s grocery store, according to Kitchell Development.

The center will also house Wells Fargo and Chase banks, Italy Cleaners, Queen B Nails & Spa, Supercuts, Subway and Taqueria La Mexicana, among other tenants that will be decided later.

The entire center will take up 98,000 square feet, Kitchell said.

A Panera would be great. Do we really need another Subway? NO! A Togo's would be much better. I hope to get more franchised or "name brand" restaurants rather than the mom and pop businesses that I see around town. Even, a Boudin would be great. They opened one in Stockton and we have been out there several times for clam chowder. No longer have to drive to San Francisco for some great sour dough bread.

It's better than the Quickly restaurant on Eleventh St. Fried food washed down with tapioca and sweetener. Yuck! I guess someone wanted Tracy citizens to purchase a variety of food chains, but if those investors are listening, I'd take Subway over Quickly any day. And maybe a Paneras. Don't get me started on dryed out shishabobs and watery tsatsiki sauce at the local mediteranian market. Let's get an restaurant owner that knows how to cook. Smokers need not apply.

I too am not looking forward to another Subway. I think a Chipotle or Panera or Jamba Juice would be great. I also think a mom and pop bakery would be nice. There are so many types of stores that would be really nice to have around the corner. I also wanted to mention to those of you who have not had shopped at Raley's previously..they are expensive, more so than Safeway, I think. You may find yourself still shopping at places like Foodmax for the larger grocery trips. They have a beautiful store though.

NO STARBUCKS! Peets is way better. Also if you want a blended decaf coffee drink (such as blended mocha etc)from Starbucks they cannot do it. They try to make them a different way and it never turns out right. Starbucks coffee is also more acidic and is one of the worst for your tummy. So watch out.

Java Makers can make the decaf blended drinks. They make great ones. Peet's can do it too! I heard they are supposed to have a Peet's inside Raleys.

I am just thrilled that we finally have a choice of where to shop. Safeway is just way too expensive and why do we need 3 Save Marts? Food Maxx is owned by Save Mart too. Hopefully Raley's will bring a little competition to Save Mart's monopoly.

I am happy to have Raley's so close to home but I would be glad to travel across town for WinCo. What happened to it?

PLEASE NOT ANOTHER SUBWAY OR TAQUERIA! Why do we need 6 subways in the small town. I have lived here 5 years now and I can not imagine why this place can not think of something new! We have some decent Itailan food and roadhouse serves a good steak. If I want a burger Dandy Dogs works for me. But other than that, its all just subway. Why can't we get a Panera or even a Boston Market. If it has to be all chains then even El Pollo Loco would be a nice change. Yogafina is the most exciting thing to happen to this town in years. That got me all pumped up thinking what might come next..just to be let down by hearing about another SUBWAY!!

I for one am incredibly excited about Raley's. I live by downtown and shop at SaveMart...which is ok at best. Safeway does nothing but make me frustrated and angry everytime I shop there and though the people are nice at SaveMart, they just don't have the stuff I want/need (seriously, no Advil Migraine?). I was a Nob Hill die-hard in Livermore and can't wait to get my store back essentially.

As to the other businesses...I agree, how many cruddy Subway's do we need? I prefer Togo's in a heartbeat and Mr. Pickles is so much better it hurts. But franchises and chains seem to run the economy to a big degree. My solution is to frequent locally owned businesses as often as I can.

If I want a burger, you'll find me at the Banta Inn or Wallie's 10 times more often than McDonald's or Burger King. I agree with DetHkyTwn about the 11th Avenue McDonald's. I am addicted to their Sweet Tea so I stop in the mornings...and they started to become rude when I would ask for it to be filled all the way up (really?) so I started going to the one on Tracy Blvd. Much nicer, but then a week later they shut it down for remodeling! Ack!

Personally, I'd like to see strip malls stop popping up like weeds, but I will frequent this one for groceries at the least!

What's the opening date?

Shelly,

Personally, I think Raleys is a good and different business than what we've seen before.

I don't care to discuss these others except to say that they come and go like Long John Silvers and are based on demographics and previous success of similar businesses.

Why do you think Raleys is on the south of Tracy. Where else would you put Raleys but where there was recent growth.

Have you seen a franchise's growth chart? They pay their managers based on how many new customers they bring in every year/quarter.

That the business. If you want to make a buck you do what works. You and I have little say in it unless you call Paneras and ask for a franchise. Even then. Paneras will tell you where your next store will be.

If you don't believe me try it. I already did. And that's how it works in this business.
