The Crush scored 19 during the tournament, and for the second tournament in a row, the Crush defense, including Nicole Kelsey, Bailey Hoffman, Mattison Stokes, Daniella Angel, Llritza Torres, Hayley Fife and goalie Anekha Birdi, held the opposition scoreless.
On Saturday, the Crush played the Mill Valley Rockers to an 11-0 win and then defeated the Mustang Magic, 1-0.
On Sunday, they beat Alliance FC, 6-0, in the semifinal. In the championship, the Crush beat Santa Clara Sporting, 1-0, with a goal from Amanda Arledge.
Other players to score goals over the weekend were Samantha Tran, Fife, Jessica Taylor, Maya Lopez and Erika Dias. Halle Burrell, Tran, Arledge, Danielle Green, Gabrielle Burns, Fife and Dias were all credited with assists.
Storm take AAU tourney win
The Tracy Storm girls 13-and-under AAU basketball team took first place in their first tournament of the season in Sacramento on Saturday. The girls played up a division and went undefeated against the high school competition.
In game one, the Storm defeated the Cameron Park Wildcats, 60-28. Charise Holloway and Noni Kuumba were the Storm’s top scorers with 15 points apiece. Jasmine Hampton had 10 points and eight rebounds, while point guard Shania Ratcliff added 11 points.
In game two, the Storm defeated San Jose’s Speed City by a score of 39-25. Holloway led the way with 16 points, while Ariana Vaughn-Smith added six and Kuumba added seven.
To seal the championship, the Storm defeated El Dorado Hills by a score of 40-18. The Storm’s full-court defensive pressure led to multiple steals and El Dorado turnovers. Holloway was again the Storm’s leading offensive producer with 13 points and seven boards. Jasmine Hampton was close behind with 10 points and nine boards. Ratcliff added eight points to the victory, while Vaughn-Smith contributed seven.
Golfers qualify for championship
Old River Golf Club had its annual two-day Northern California Golf Association Central Valley Zone Qualifier on Sept. 19 and 20.
The top four qualifiers in the two-day combine-score compeition were David Parra (130), John Esparza (137), Don Goddard (142) and Ken Pizl (144). They will represent the club and the city of Tracy next year in two days of zone championship play at the Quail Lodge and Poppy Hills golf courses in Monterey on May 3 and 4, 2010, and in the final on Aug. 30 and 31 at the Spyglass and Poppy Hills golf courses.
Revolution take tourney title
The under-15 Girls Tracy Revolution played in the South Valley Soccer Fest in Visalia on Saturday and Sunday. They had a 3-0-1 record that included a victory in the championship game, in which they beat South Valley United, 2-0.
Players include: Marissa Paz, Amanda Simonich, Viviana Amezquita, Allison Chase, Shelby Devlin, Courtney Allen, Taylor Roach, Myra Ochoa, Dani Rodrigues, Kourtney Reed, Katie Little, Alyssa DeAnda, Mandi Alveraz, Natalie Lambert, Jazmin Ordonez, and Haley Thatcher.
Cougars U-19s take second
The Cougars under-19 team finished second at the California Odyssey Academy Cup in Clovis. The Cougars opened with a 2-0 win over the Cal Odyssey under-17 Red. Marissa Matta and Lexi Poppoff scored the Cougars’ goals, and Kylie Gacer had one assist.
The Cougars then beat the Selma Storm, 6-0. Poppoff had three goals, Amie Gillett had two goals and Valeria Ordaz had one goal. Ordaz and Poppoff each had two assists, and Alyssa Strope had one assist.
In their third game, the Cougars defeated Diablo FC, 3-0, on goals by Gacer, Mariela Pimentel and Poppoff. Ordaz had two assists, and Marena O’Leary had one assist each.
In the championship game against the Cal Odyssey under-18 Red, the Cougars and Odyssey battled through 70 minutes of regulation play to a 1-1 tie, with O’Leary scoring the lone Cougars goal on a Poppoff assist. Both teams battled through 10 minutes of overtime and then went into penalty kicks, where the Odyssey prevailed, 5-4.
Cougars goalkeeper Brianna Murawski posted three shutouts in the tournament and only gave up one goal behind the strong defensive play of Dunning, Gillett, Jessica Leal, Rebecca Scott, Alyssa Strope and Melissa Worthington.
The Cougars under-15 team finished third at the California Odyssey Academy Cup on Saturday and Sunday in Clovis. The Cougars opened with a 4-1 loss to Cal Odyssey. Diana Murillo scored the lone Cougars goal on a Stephanie Pawek assist.
The Cougars then lost to Mission Valley United, 3-2. Pawek and Lana Pineo scored the goals, and Grace Cabri had two assists. Goalkeeper Victoria Case sat out most of the game after a collision with a United attacker.
In the consolation game, the Cougars defeated Bullard United, 2-1, on two Pawek goals. Fiona Kennedy had the lone assist.
