A man’s body was pulled from the Delta Mendota Canal today, but officials will wait to say whether it’s that of a fisherman who disappeared after he fell in the water on Monday.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Department got a report at 12:51 p.m. today that a man’s body surfaced in the canal near Hansen Road, said San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Les Garcia. It took crews about an hour to pull the body from the water.

Alameda County authorities notified those in San Joaquin County to say a woman across the county line on Monday reported that man she was fishing with fell in the water and never resurfaced, Garcia said.

Police will release the name of the man once he has been positively identified and his relatives are told of his death.

This reminds me of the time back during the 1960s when aboard one of my parents' yachts my family encountered a fish feeding frenzy. Bonito were leaping into the air to escape predators. Seagulls came to the scene. It was pandemonium. Mom got her fishing line tangled in the ship's yard-wide propellors. I put on a face mask, swim fins and threw myself overboard into the sea. Beneath the ship's hull I un-wrapped the tangled lines then looked down into over 10,000' of water above the Catalina Trench. Beneath me the water changed colors down thru shades of blue to utter darkness. The water was filled with fish scales looking like diamonds. From the darkness erose a 20' long Great White shark. I grabbed the swim ladder, hauled myself up in an instant, threw myself on the deck. Folks, you never know what's going to happen when you go fishing. You could go fishing for a trout and a grizzly bear could eat you. So be careful.

I think it is funny that we think these images are beyond horrible. The situation itself is sad. The families loss is terrible! But the simple fact of the matter is.....everyone who thinks that these pictures are wrong...you lokked at them. You are probably the worst gawkers at accidents too.....

I'd hate to think it's not the missing fisherman's body.

The criticism is not AIMED AT GLENN MOORE. It is aimed at the paper's lack of discretion in using that picture.

Moore's works are outstanding, and never failed to impress me, even the ones shown here, but the timing and the taste of it is off since the identification of the body was not made known.

Glenn is flawless with his photography works, just disappointed TP with the decision in the choice of using the ones shown in press? Some pictures just sits better with the crime lab materials (they could use your great photos!), police evidence, and so on.

But that is just sensitive me, maybe too sensitive. The criticism, again, was not directed to Glenn Moore!

I was at my mom's house in 1994 when she died. I called the Meat Wagon, had her carcass hauled away. Mom was born in 1912 and told me prior to her death to bury her in a pine box in the back yard. She told me beware of the mortuary people for they are the lowest of scum and they'll try to take advantage of me. She was right. The mortuary tried to sell me a $20,000 coffin. I knew mom's ghost would throw a fit so I bought a made-in-Tijuana coffin. After I go belly up you can do want you want with me. Put me on display in front of the country store and sell tickets. I don't care.

So, start taking pictures of dismembered bodies of car accident victims of drunk drivers and print it in the newspaper as daily reminders!!???

Or take pictures of dead body showing stabbing or shot up bodies?

Tasteless! and that's reality!

Thank you Tracy Press. No need to apologize for those that can't handle the truth. Truth is....pictures are great teachers. Life jackets save lives. Our family fishes all the time and we always wear our life jackets but there are many who think they are immune. One wake from a boat going by can tip the boat, you fall, you're in the water and the rest is history. I feel terrible for the families loss. Too bad this unfortunate soul didn't see a picture like this to teach him basic safety rules.

I'm fishing for words to say. I can't believe the Tracy Press printed a picture of that man's torso being dragged out of the water. Oh my goodness! What were you thinking, TP?

Tracy Press, I know it hasn't occurred to you that you just inflicted psychological damage to the family by publishing such picture that ought to be private to spare the family of robbed dignity as portrayed in the picture. Who wants to see their family member shown in unflattering situation.... an unattractive death.

It might be prudent for you to issue a letter of apology to the family since it was printed without the family's permission? Correct me if I am wrong. I would appreciate it. Don't want to keep thinking you practice poor taste.

Thank you.

I agree with Concerned Parents, poor taste on the editor's part, how are those pictures news worthy??? No class whatsoever. An apology from the Matthews family is in order, that was plain rude and distasteful.

Normally like the photos in the Press but this may be a bit harsh for the victim's family.

RIP fisherman.
